TOPIC: Compensation regime for oil pollution damage.

Acceptable level of deliberation on this topic is possible only by addressing all following aspects.

(a) Purpose of International conventions: CLC, FUND, Supplementary FUND and Bunker and as per
each convention, who is responsible for pollution damage and to what extent.

(b) Exemptions from liability to shipowner available under CLC and Bunker conventions.

(c) Source of funds paid to claimants of oil pollution damage under each of the conventions.

(d) Effect of tanker pollution incidents such as Erika on liability limits.

(e) Your opinion on large pollution damage claims in respect of financial losses (for example: loss of
profits for fishermen) and reinstatement of environment (for example: cleaning of birds and
mammals).
