General Learning Outcomes:

1-5 Identify and evaluate methods for creating colour and for applying colours to different
materials.
Specific Learning Outcomes:

5- Predict and describe changes in colour that result from the mixing of primary colours and from
mixing a primary colour with white and black
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Students will:

 Recognize colour words and match it to the correct colour


 Be able to compare and contrast colours
 Understand that mixing primary colours will produce a secondary colour

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT


* Bubbles
* Food colouring
* Corn syrup

PROCEDURE
Introduction:
Hook/Attention Grabber:
The Lost Children
 Have the students close their eyes as you set the story setting (first 2 pages, before the
story begins)
 After reading the story, explain to the students that we are going to make stars that will
represent the lost children.
 Explain to them that they are welcome in our classroom and that everyone belongs and
respected.
 When the stars are done and up, explain that they now have a home and are amongst us.

4. Give the students time to work

Assessment of Prior Knowledge:


Can the students identify colour?
Do the students understand colors have different shades.

Learning Activity 1: Stations
Corn Syrup Squish
 Students will be making stars (the lost children)
 Cover the table with news paper
 Give each students a piece of manila tag
 Children fold the manila tag in half and grizzle 1 teaspoon of corn syrup over one half of
the manila tag.
 Randomly put 1 drop each of red, yellow and blue colouring on the same half that the
students have drizzled corn syrup on. (or pick two of the primary colours)
 Fold the other side over and slowly run and smooth out over the entire surface.
 Open the manila tag and allow the corn syrup to dry.
 Once dry cut out into a circle and place randomly on board.
Bubbles
 Students will get a chance to create and mix bubbles to take home
Experiments
 Students will be doing their own experiments to find their own secondary colour

Learning Activity #2: Give the students time to work


Students, who are finished the activity, can help clean up.

Assessments:
 Are the students engaged in conversation?
 Are the students making predictions?
 Are they portraying identification towards the colour words?
 Can they identify the primary colours?
