Ms. Veteto’s Classroom Management Plan

General Procedure:

1. Missed Classes and Tardiness – Students should attend class regularly and on time. If a student is
to walk into class late, they should have a signed note from either an office administrator or their
previous instructor. If a student is late to class 3 times with no excused notes, the student will suffer
a 5 point deduction in their participation grade. If a student is to miss a class period, the office
should excuse their absence and provide the student with a note. Once the student’s absence has
been excused they may have access to the materials missed during the class period, the student
will then have 1 full class period to make up their missing work.
2. Entering the Classroom – Class begins the for every student the moment they walk through the
door. Students are expected to take their headphones out of their ears and put their phones away
before coming into the classroom. If a student must use their phone for any reason before the bell
rings, they should step out into the hallway and complete their task before entering. After entering
the classroom, students should find their seats, set down their belongings and submit all homework
into the turn-in basket with their corresponding class number.
3. Starting the Class – Students should prepare for class during their warm-up period. When the
warm-up music is playing, students are permitted to move about the room to gather materials and
complete any preparations for the day (borrowing a pen, paper, stapler, etc.,). Students should
gather materials for the class before the lesson begins. While the students complete their warm-up
assignments, they are expected to distribute the learning materials placed in the middle of their
desks to the rest of their group members.
4. Finishing the Class – Students should not leave the room until the bell has signaled for them to do
so. Before exiting the classroom, any student who has borrowed a material (pen, eraser, stapler,
etc.,) should return their item at the front of the room.
5. Food in the Classroom – Students should refer to the student handbook’s rules regarding food and
drink in the classroom. No food will be allowed to enter the classroom with a student; however, it is
permissible for the students to eat if the instructor provides the class with food. Capped drinks,
including water and soda bottles and travel-containers will be permitted if the student disposes of
the materials before they exit the classroom.

Behavioral Policy:

6. Speaking out of Turn – Students will be asked to always raise their hand before speaking in the
class. By doing this, students will reduce unnecessary noise in the classroom and will practice
speaking respectfully. Occasionally, students will be asked to engage in whole-class discussions,
in this particular instance, students will be encouraged to speak naturally and this will not require
students to raise their hands.
7. Conflicts with Peers – Students will not engage in verbally aggressive and/or physical
confrontations with their peers. If any students are seen to be blatantly hostile in the classroom or
engaging in a verbal/physical altercation, they will be escorted to the counseling office separately
where they can effectively discuss their conflict. If a student feels unsafe or unwelcome in the
classroom, they should confront the instructor to ensure that immediate action is taken to resolve
the issue.
8. Respecting the Instructor – Students who outwardly engage in a disrespectful discourse with their
instructor will not be permitted to stay in the classroom. After the first offense, the student will be
asked to stay after class to discuss their behavior. After the second offense, the student’s parent or
guardian will be notified of the incident. Finally, after the third offense, the student will be taken to
the guidance office, where a counselor will communicate what course of action the student would
like to take.
9. Limiting Unnecessary Distractors – Students are not permitted to speak while another student is
addressing the class. Side conversations will be permitted during activities integrated into the
lesson plan and should not be occurring while the instructor is giving direction, a lecture or
providing the students with any otherwise useful information.
a. This policy includes the unnecessary use of cell-phones, laptops and tablets in the
classroom.

Academic Procedure and Grading:

10. Homework – Students will submit deliverables from the previous class period/homework in the
turn-in bin marked with their corresponding class number. Homework assignments count for 15%
(placeholder) of the student’s grade. If a student neglects to submit their homework on time, they
will be docked 5 points from the given assignment every day until it is turned in. If the student
neglects to turn in the assignment within the first week of being assigned, they will not be given the
opportunity to submit the assignment any longer.
11. Tests – Students should abide by the testing schedule in their class syllabus before planning any
excused absences. If a student misses an in-class examination and provides a written note, they
will be permitted to retake the test within the following class period. If a student is aware of an
absence before the date of the test, they may make a request to take the examination early after
consulting with the instructor. If a student does not provide a note, they will be permitted to take the
examination with a 10 point deduction.
12. Grades – If students have any questions or concerns about their grades or the school’s grading
policy, they should refer to the class syllabus to review the weighted percentages. Students are
expected to understand this information after the very first day of class, final grades will not be
open for discussion or modification.
13. Extra Credit – Extra credit opportunities will be provided throughout the course of the school year.
Students will have the option to engage in up to 3 of the 8 offered extra credit opportunities. Each
supplemental assignment must be completed during the assigned due dates. If the assignments
include attending a play, visiting a museum or seeing a movie, the student must provide
documented proof of their attendance.
