FOCUSING QUESTION
How can we represent contrasting
sections with a musical map?
MATERIALS
“This is Halloween” by Ms. Lucchesse
poster, Puzzle Pieces, Nearpod Presentation,
Song Choice Cards, 5 Posters for groups,
markers and colored pencils, pencils.
ASSESSMENT
Formative:
Teacher monitors how students identify and
create their own musical maps with symbols
and colors.
Summative:
Teacher records data of 1st musical map
creation in Nearpod app.
Present:
1. Teacher presents Nearpod
Presentation on Musical Maps.
2. Teacher places students into 5
groups and hands out puzzle pieces.
3. Teacher gives students 1st puzzle
piece (8 x’s from left to right).
4. Teacher plays the song “This is
Halloween”.
5. Students map the song with puzzle
pieces and teacher asks for
volunteers with the correct answers.
6. Teacher reveals her musical map and
performs for the class.
7. Teacher assigns the groups a song to
do their own musical map.
8. Students spend 1 class period
mapping out their song clip in pencil,
then in color, differetiating the
sections. (​See Google Classroom
instruction sheet).
9. Students come up with an
appropriate “team name” to build
comunity and perform for their
peers.
Personalize:
