Lesson Title:

Immunology
Lesson Objective: Students will gain an understand the basics of the human immune system.
Students will be able to differentiate between different molecules responsible for the immune
system. Students will be able to differentiate between adaptive and innate immunity.
Essential Question: What is the difference between Innate and Adaptive immunity? What are
the associated proteins and processes associated with immunity.
Background Information
Introduction: The immune system involves the response to foreign bodies known as antigens.
The body responds through two different ways: innate and adaptive immunity. Mechanisms for
these responses will be explained in depth, including associated proteins, and students will
have a chance to review on their own.

ENGAGE: Students will hear an overview of the topic through a powerpoint presentation.
Teacher will explain verbally what the lesson will cover, and why it is important as it pertains
to the larger concept of the human body.
EXPLORE: Students will watch videos with embedded questions on EdPuzzle. Students will have
a chance to review the material as much as they desire.
EXPLAIN: Students will talk to one another and explain any confusing concepts they are able to,
as well as articulate portions of the lesson they enjoyed.
Vocabulary: Innate, adaptive, T cells, Helper T cells, B cells, TC cells, phagocytes, lymphocytes,
phagolymphocytes, phagocytosis, perforins, granzymes, cytokines, plasma cells, memory cells,
antibodies, antigens, MHC 1 and 2.
ELABORATE: Students will vocalize the concepts to other students around the, and clarify
anything that was confusing.
EVALUATE:
Formative Monitoring (Questioning / Discussion): Discussion with other students.
Summative Assessment (Quiz / Project / Report): Quiz embedded within video
Jeopardy game testing their knowledge of the material.
Differentiation/Support (ELL,SpEd,Gate/Honors): ELL and SpEd can take as long as they need
with the videos, and can ask for support from teacher. Additionally, any confusing material will
be reviewed by the head teacher. Those who who are Gate or Honors have the chance to work
ahead and begin working on the Jeopardy game while the other students continue to work
through the videos.
