Study of bridge rectifier

AIM: To study bridge rectifier.

OBJECTIVES:
1. To learn concept of rectification.
2. To understand the working of diodes, filter capacitors.
3. To study the function of bridge rectifier .

APPARATUS:
Experimental Board with AC power supply, transformer (0-15 V, 250mA),, DMM, CRO,
resistors ,capacitor and diodes (1N 4007 – 4 nos) etc

CIRCUIT DIAGRAMS:

PROCEDURE:
1. Make the circuit connections according to circuit diagram shown on board using Patch
Chord. Carefully look the polarities of the power supply.
2. Connect AC supply to primary of step-down transformer.
3. Measure the secondary AC voltage of the transformer
4. Make the bridge connection.
5. Measure DC output voltage without connecting load RL. This is no load voltage (VNL)
6. Also note down the AC output voltage.
7. Connect RL resistance box instead of the fixed resistor by varying RL, note the values of
load current and load voltage.
8. Calculate ripple factor and voltage regulation.
9. Observe and draw the output signal shown on CRO.
10. Remove the resistance box and connect the fixed resistor and capacitor, then observe the
output on CRO and note down the output voltage.
FORMULAE:
Ripple Factor = AC Ripple voltage / DC Output voltage
Voltage Regulation = ((VNL –VFL) / VFL)X100
Where, VFL = Full load voltage ( for max IL , i.e. min RL)
VNL = no load voltage ( when IL=0, i.e. max RL)
Draw graph of IL Vs VL
