Re: Student Resume and Letter

Dr. Wickliff,
I created my cover letter to convey my interest with TIAA’s internship program in
technology. I also created my resume to provide TIAA that I have the skills to be part of
their program. My resume and cover letter are for internship position to give me exposure
from the classes I have taken in computer science. My work experiences do not coincide
with my major but my exposure to the different disciplines in information technology
would give me the edge to be accepted in the program.

My text is all in Times New Roman. My name is the header title and I used large font
size with 26 pts. The font size for my secondary titles are my Objective, Education, Skills
and Education, Employment were 16 pts with light blue in color. I used bold face for my
tertiary header titles which are my education, skills, and work experiences and used 14
pts in size. Both the cover letter and resume are standard 1-inch margins on all sides.

Assessment from Hazel Mynes:

I updated the cover letter suggested by Hazel:
1. In my cover letter I included the name of the company, which is TIAA as suggested
by Hazel
2. I cannot add my anticipated graduation date because I am considered as non-
traditional student, meaning I am not a full-time student and only take one or two
classes per semester. I also work 12 hours, 4 days a week.
3. In my resume, I capitalized the word Science after ‘Associate Degree in Computer
Science”
4. I deleted the third blank page.

Resume Assessment from Ivy Koshy:

Ivy recommended to center my job description but I feel like it would look messy and
stayed with left justifying my columns.
I appreciate Ivy’s comment with my resume but I used the best examples given in glass to
format my resume, including what Ivy called it as segregating markers. I am not sure
what she meant when she mentioned “bulleted-points, the name of the company could
have been mentioned, ensued by a brief description of what the role/position of that
specific occupation encompasses”. I believe I included all those in my resume. I did not
use Ivy’s recommendation to update my resume.

Cover Letter Assessment from Ivy Koshy:

Again, the cover letter I used is almost the same example presented in class. I changed “I
welcome to explore various technology tools” could have been phrased as: “I’m open
to exploring various technology tools” to I welcome the opportunity to explore learning
various tools in technology, techniques, and disciplines the internship program offers.
I also changed “the different assignments will provide to work side by side with
other colleagues” to “The different assignments will provide me the chance to work
alongside with other colleagues as well as gain understanding of how to accomplish other
projects within the company”.
