Critical Patient Transport

In the last decade, the transport process (transfer) of patients who experience critical illness and
requires ICU treatment is increasing. The transport process can begin from the issue of the number of
times patients experience the critical conditions of the health center near the center and the health of
the health center with more complete facilities. Also, the process of transporting critical patients in the
hospital cans for medical action in diagnostics. The process of transferring the patient is critical to the
unit in the hospital, called intra-hospital transport. Whereas the transfer process of hospitals was called
Interhospital Transport.

The process of moving critically ill patients carries risks and can even be a fatal medical
event. Patients with critical illness certainly experience physiological disorders that result in
patients needing help with some bodily functions such as ventilator assistance, vasopressor drugs
and invasive monitors. The condition of the patient, the use of support organs, invasive monitor,
the transport process, the environment through which he is involved, the personnel involved, the
transport management system will greatly affect the outcome of the goal of the process of
transporting critical patients. Consideration of profit and loss on the condition of the patient in
planning the transport process must be done at the beginning of the process, which is based on
several factors such as the condition of the patient, medical and non-medical staff involved,
equipment used, administrative support, transportation capital used, communication between
units, assessment system for the readiness of a transport process and routine training of a
transport process.
The aim of the workshop was to help medical personnel and hospital management create
and implement patient safety strategies and protocols in the process of transporting critically ill
patients at prehospital, intrahospital and interhospital levels.
