The strength of the Lesson:
The lesson centered focus was clear for the students: “Count and write numbers from 1 to 10.” Khawla started her lesson explaining that the concept will be taught with “The Very Hungry Caterpillar Book.” The lesson activities were carefully structured and were appropriate to the learners’ levels. Khawla used demonstrations to model the task. Visual and kinesthetic resources were in use during Khawla’s teaching. Areas for Development: Khawla did not provide ongoing feedback to the children to enhance their learning. Some of the students were watching the video (with the book); however, lots of them did not pay any attention to the lesson during this time. Next time, Khawla has to stop the video and ask questions, making sure that everyone is on the same page and paying attention to the lesson content. Khawla was not able to create a positive and active learning environment in the classroom. While some of the kids were answering questions, others were walking around the classroom. Next time, Khawla has to make sure that everyone is a part of the lesson. Last weakness of the lesson was classroom management. During the group activity, the classroom behavior was not managed properly. The reward system was in place but Khawla overused the reward treatment. As the result, the students did not pay attention to the rewords. Khawla did not finish her lesson smoothly. Next time, Khawla has to establish and maintain rules and clear routine for the classroom behavior. Plus, the reward system must be used wisely.
