The future of medicine is here now!

Have you ever watched the TV series Star Trek and watched in amazement as the doctor
pulled out a hand-held healing device and waved it like a magic wand over the effected
area, causing it to heal immediately? That is how I feel when I use my cold laser, aka low
level laser. Cold lasers are relatively small, lightweight, easy to use and extremely
successful for countless ailments. Better yet, they are affordable, which means that they
are daily becoming more and more frequently used in homes, clinics, hospitals and
veterinarian clinics worldwide. Patients and therapists alike are benefiting from this
incredibly helpful, non-invasive form of rapid laser healing with cold laser therapy.

Cold Laser Uses, Benefits & Validation

Following is a compilation of research and data, gathered from

the study of cold lasers worldwide, which reveals the profound
value of LLLT in therapeutic applications

Low level laser therapy (LLLT) is the interchangeable name of Cold Laser
Therapy (CLT). The application of laser light over injuries, lesions, burns,
wounds, pain, inflammation and other disorders to stimulate healing within
those tissues and cells. Lasers are best known for their ability to cut, but do not
confuse Lasers for Healing, Cold Lasers or Low Level Lasers with cutting or high
powered lasers! Low level lasers, under various names such as, cold laser, soft
laser, biostimulating laser, photo stimulation diodes and many others, have
been used for over 40 years in many countries as therapeutic energy devices to
bring about favorable biological effects in both humans and animals.

“In Europe, Canada and Australia, where laser treatment is a well-

accepted methodology, it is being used for treatment of traumatic,
inflammatory and overuse injuries, pain relief and healing of arthritic
lesions, reduction of abscesses and treatment of persistent non-healing
wounds such as cold-sores and ulcers. This type of therapy has also been
used to . . . reduce pain from surgical and other treatments.”

Understanding Cold Laser Therapy – A Comprehensive Overview

Has Cold Laser Therapy Been Proven Effective?

YES, Cold Laser Therapy is highly proven and very effective. Low Level
Laser Therapy is being used as a successful treatment option for countless
conditions of pain, inflammation, dental, burn, addiction and illness
situations all over the world. Low Level Lasers have been used for over 40
years in many countries as therapeutic energy to bring about favorable
biological effects in people, plants and animals. Unlike many therapies
and drugs that just treat symptoms, Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) or
Cold Laser Therapy (CLT) has the ability to actually promote and enhance
healing.

LLLT is the future of medicine and is a modality that is rapidly growing in

popularity throughout the world. The first cold laser received FDA
clearance in the US in 2002. Since then over 40+ lasers have received
some type of clearance from the FDA. In the last few years Laser Therapy
in North America has been steadily & exponentially increasing and the
FDA has recently cleared multiple laser and LED devices for treatment of a
variety of medical conditions including: carpal tunnel syndrome, cervical
neck pain, shoulder pain, low back pain, joint pain, generalized muscle
pain, toenail fungus treatment, and acceleration of wound healing.

Cold Laser Use in Sports Medicine Worldwide

Technical light therapy is being used by Governmental agencies such as
NASA for treating medical conditions in space applications. The U.S.
Olympic training facilities have just released statements of endorsement
for Laser Therapy for athletes. Cold lasers are used by almost all major
sports teams the world over including in the Olympics, the NBA, UCLA,
NFL and NHL sports teams.

The U.S. Olympic training facilities are enthusiastic supporters of Cold

Laser Therapy (CLT), with over 50 US Olympic Sports teams incorporating
Laser treatments into their therapy and training regimens. Cold lasers are
extensively used by all teams in the NFL, the vast majority of NBA
Teams, Major League Soccer, and the NHL. Trainers and team physicians
in collegiate and high school level sports programs across the country are
beginning to make use of Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT).

In the week preceding the 2004 Super Bowl, Boston-based registered

nurse Ellen Spicuzza, who usually treats Patriot players' injuries with

medical massage, treated more than 10 Patriot players with cold laser
therapy for tendon and muscle injuries. A couple of days prior to the
Super Bowl weekend, she treated [Patriot wide receiver] David Givens, who
had a locked-up hamstring. She rotated the laser over the belly of his
hamstring muscle for about five minutes, and "The laser released it." For
the big game, she used low level laser therapy on the athletes' most
troublesome pain spots.

Chadwick Smith, clinical professor of orthopedics and bioengineering at

the University of Southern California Medical School said, "Cold lasers
speed the healing process. It used to take at least seven to ten days for a
hamstring injury to heal. Cold laser therapy cuts it down to two to three
days."

The Sport Horse and Greyhound racing communities have been using LLLT
for over 30 years for maintaining winning performance animals and to
rehabilitate injured horses and race dogs, and get them back in the game
again.

Are Low Level Lasers Safe?

Low Level Laser Therapy has been proven completely safe in over 4000
worldwide studies. When Low Level Lasers are used correctly, they are very safe.
The most important safety regulation is to avoid pointing a laser at the eye.
Stimulating lasers have a particularly powerful beam and can cause harm to the
retina with prolonged exposure. The infrared spectrum is invisible to the eye;
consequently it does not initiate an eye reflex response.

Contraindications are very few and include: Do not point lasers directly at an
open eye, or over an active cancer or at a fetus during pregnancy.

Medical Conditions that Benefit from Cold Laser
Therapy (CLT) Include:
• PAIN – Low Level Laser Therapy has been cleared by the FDA as an
adjunct treatment method for pain related to neck and shoulder injuries.
• Carpal Tunnel Syndrome – Low Level Laser Therapy has been cleared
by the FDA as an adjunct treatment method for this condition.

How Does Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT)

also known as Cold Laser Therapy (CLT) Work?

According To Low Level Laser Therapy by Jan Turner & Lars Hode (Prima
Books), therapeutic laser therapy:

• Reduces pain by causing the production of natural pain killer endorphins.

• Reduces inflammation by suppressing inflammatory enzymes that create
swelling, redness, pain, and heat and enhances the release of anti-
inflammatory enzymes.
• Enhances lymphatic drainage, which increases circulation and speeds
healing.
• Stimulates the release of helpful healing enzymes.
• Releases tight muscles (both smooth and striated) that create chronic
pain, joint problems, and decreased mobility.
• Speeds bone repair by stimulating fibroblastic and osteoblastic
proliferation.
• Low level therapeutic lasers in the correct frequency appears to be
antiviral, antifungal, and antiherpetic.

Laser irradiation of tissue cultures has shown that units of light energy
(photons) are absorbed by enzymes, which react to light within the cell. Visible
light is absorbed within the mitochondria and the infrared light is absorbed at
the cell membrane. In a mammalian cell, this results in a change in membrane
permeability, increased ATP levels and increased DNA production. The photons
picked up by the cell membrane result in improved membrane stability and

increased activity of the ATP dependent Na/K pump. Because cell metabolism is
influenced by Na/K movement across the membrane, increasing the gradient will
affect the flow of ions and hence the overall metabolism of the cell.

On a tissue level, it has been shown that irradiation by laser light results in
increased collagen and epithelial production and production of new capillaries
and an increase in density of the capillary bed. Reduction of pain and
inflammation results from this treatment, as does the stimulation of nerve
regeneration, muscle relaxation and atonicity (lack of muscle tone). There is also
an indication that laser light therapy helps to increase the immune system
response.

[Low Level Laser Therapy Provides New Treatment Possibilities, Dr. Melyni Worth,
Ph.D, World Equine Veterinary Review, Vol. 3, No.3, 1998]

FACT: Osmosis (transfer of essential nutrients) cannot occur

across the cellular membrane of a de-polarized (sick) cell.
Consequently, delayed healing, chronic dis-ease, scars, fatigue,
and accelerated aging is observed! LLLT reenergizes (re-
polarizes) injured cell membranes and increases the
mitochondria energy by 150%, which speeds and improves the
healing process!

There are 75 Trillion Cells in a human body and they all need energy and
electrons to communicate with each other. Laser light delivers required
electrons and photons (little energy packets) directly to the cells and
enhances both their ability to communicate with each other and their
ability to produce ATP (chemical energy), which they require for optimal
functioning. Additionally LLLT causes the release of anti-inflammatory
enzymes and the production of endorphins, which are natural pain-killers
and mood elevators.

• Red light aids in the production of ATP in cells, which increases cellular
health and energy. The radiation (energy) in normal cells stimulates adjacent
cells to divide in the normal process of regeneration and healing. Laser light
stimulates abnormal tissue to activate normal inter-cellular radiation, thus
stimulating the normal healing process to start again. The photons produced by
laser light normalize tissue by activating enzymes within cells. Once activated,
enzymes within a cell trigger a chemical reaction in which more enzymes are
activated in a domino-type effect. Low Level Laser Therapy has no effect on
normal tissue. Photons will only be absorbed by cells that need them.

Cold Laser Therapy Research

Cold Laser Therapy will naturally not work on everything, however due to the
fact that it treats at a cellular level, it is successful at treating an astounding
level of conditions. Some research has failed to demonstrate effect in several
indications, however proper treatment is dependent upon numerous factors
including dosage, diagnosis, frequency of treatment and treatment technique.

Therapeutic lasers have been used worldwide for over 40 years. Over 3000
studies have shown that therapeutic low level lasers:
1. REDUCE PAIN by stimulating cells to produce their own endorphins, a
natural pain killer,
2. PROMOTE FASTER HEALING by stimulating cells to increase the production
of two major healing enzymes by as much as 75%,
3. REDUCE INFLAMMATION by as much as 75%,
4. INCREASE BONE REPAIR SPEED by stimulating fibroblastic and osteoblastic
proliferation,
5. RELAX MUSCLES and muscle spasms,
6. DECREASE SWELLING by stimulating lymphatic drainage,
7. ENHANCE THE IMMUNE SYSTEM by increasing the number of "killer" cells
by 400-900%, and most importantly,
8. RE-ENERGIZE CELL MEMBRANES to allow transport of essential nutrients
across cell walls (nutrients will not cross an injured or sick cell wall, thus
slowing healing) allowing the growth and proliferation of healthy cells.

Cold lasers and Cold Laser Therapy have been thoroughly embraced
word-wide by practitioners and home-users alike.
Many cold lasers are available without a prescription, but not all of them are
created equally. There is a big difference between the capabilities of the various
cold laser therapy products on the market today.

With cold lasers we have the ability to both stimulate and activate the acupoints
on humans and animals. This laser stimulation significantly increasing the flow
of energy or Chi, while simultaneously donating photonic energy, which the
Mitochondria in your cells converts into ATP. ATP is the preferred fuel for most
cells in the human body. Additionally, with cold lasers we can tonify or sedate
the acupoints to achieve desired results in a significantly short period of time
compared to needles and with no pain or puncture. This super safe, non-

invasive form of aculight therapy has become the premier method of treating
people for pain, injuries, addictions, smoking cessation and weight
management. The list of treatment possibilities is extensive. You can literally
treat thousands of symptoms and conditions utilizing the power of laser light
and the knowledge of eastern acupoint treatment wisdom that has been
perfected for thousands of years.

Cold lasers are being used by all kinds of therapist such as: Doctors, Dentists,
Acupuncturists, DO’s, Oral Surgeons, Veterinarians, Chiropractors, and Plastic
Surgeons. Additionally Therapeutic Lasers are being used by almost all major
sports teams and Olympic athletes the world over. Healing Lasers are being used
in tens of thousands of Hospitals and private practices, and over 4,000
supportive clinical studies have revealed the effectiveness of Cold Laser Therapy
(CLT). Treatment with Cold Laser Therapy is quickly becoming one of the fastest
growing segments of alternative medicine and complimentary medicine.

People and practitioners are constantly reporting great results from cold lasers
for treatment of countless conditions including: carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS),
repetitive stress disorders, back, neck and shoulder conditions, acute and
chronic pain, arthritis, inflammation, Fibromyalgia, skin conditions, acne,
cosmetics, anti-aging, diabetic neuropathy, weight loss, smoking cessation,
drug and alcohol addiction & more.

PAIN RELIEF WITHOUT NEEDLES, PILLS OR SURGERY

IS NOW POSSIBLE!
DISCOVER THE HEALING POWER OF LIGHT!
You can easily learn how to use this fabulously effective solution for pain
management and natural healing. Cold Laser Therapy has been practiced for
over 40 years throughout the world, primarily in Europe, Asia and Canada and
since 1990 in the US for sport horses and show dogs and since on humans. Now
known as Cold Laser Therapy (CLT) and has been FDA Cleared for numerous
human pain relief applications since 2002.

Cold Laser Therapy — Is it Safe?

Absolutely YES! Cold Laser Therapy (CLT) is FDA Cleared for safety. Acupressure
and acupuncture have been used for over 5000 years with great results. In the
last 30-40 years the principles of acupuncture have be blended with acu-light
therapy to produce better results non-invasively and painlessly to the body.
These non-invasive acu-light point stimulation products are completely safe and
work very well with the naturally occurring electrical system of the body. They
work to normalize the energy in the acupuncture meridians, which correspond
to the internal organs and central nervous system. The electric stimulation or

light therapy also sends a message to the brain to release pain blockers known
as endorphins and blood circulation is increased. Blood caries oxygen and
nutrients to accelerate natural healing. That is why people often stimulate
directly around the area where they are experiencing pain, in addition to using
strategically chosen acu-points.

There are 14 main meridians and 360 main acupuncture points, according to
Chinese Acupuncture Theory. There are many great books that explain the
fundamentals of acupuncture, acupressure and reflexology.

Who Uses Cold Laser Therapy?

Cold Laser Therapy (CLT) also know as Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is used by
Acupuncturists, Chiropractors, Massage Therapists, Medical Doctors,
Osteopathic Doctors, Health Professionals, Pain Management Clinics, Sports
Therapists, Physical Therapists, Estheticians, Veterinarians, and lay people in all
walks of life. These are tools for EVERYONE and they can just as easily be used
on oneself as on someone else. They are fantastic self-help tools for alternative
healing. They give new meaning to alternative medicine and complimentary
medicine.

Practitioners, Chiropractors and Massage Therapists have found that by using

Cold Laser Therapy they can give their clients better results quicker than with
their conventional treatments. Cold lasers are often used for lower back pain,
stiff shoulders, neck-aches, sciatica, headaches, arthritis, morning stiffness,
allergies, sinus congestion, skin conditions, dental distress, cold sores, wrinkles,
Fibromyalgia and numerous other conditions.

Why Use Cold Laser Therapy?

The physiological and chemical reactions in the body due to use of Cold Laser
Therapy (CLT) are significant and varied. CLT works to help relax muscles,
alleviate pain (analgesic), reduce inflammation (anti-inflammatory) by
deactivating 7 of the 9 enzymes that cause inflammation by up to 70%, reduce
swelling, boost the immune system by up to 150%, stimulate the release of
endorphins (for pain relief and mood elevation or stabilization), increase
microcirculation, repolarizes cell membranes (increased cell permeability),
increases production of osteoblasts and fibroblasts (helpful in cases of weak or
injured bones and atrophy) and most importantly – donates photonic energy to
all cells it reaches, that need it (thus the importance of different wavelengths for
different depths of penetration). The significance of the varied actions of CLT
cannot be understated. The Mitochondria in your cells immediately converts
photonic energy into readily usable “chemical” energy in the form of Adenosine
Triphosphate (ATP). ATP is the primary fuel source for every cell. Every cell in
your body requires ATP, which gives it the energy it needs to function and
perform at peak efficiency.

Understanding Cold Laser Therapy – A Comprehensive Overview

HOW do you use laser light therapy?

It is very easy to use and can be successfully used in many ways. It is also
complimentary to many health care modalities. The most common method is to
apply the laser directly to the skin around any part of the body where you have
pain (except unprotected eyes, on open wounds and on the belly of a pregnant
woman). It is extremely safe and easy to use for quick pain relief on painful
muscles or joints all over the body. Just spend 5 to 15 minutes working on a
combination of pain points, acupoints or reflex points in order to activate the
endorphins and clear energy blockages in the body. Frequently the pain goes
away if not immediately, then within 15 minutes.

Photochemical Effects of Cold Laser Therapy

In an effort to understand why the cold laser provides pain relief,
reduction of inflammation, increased circulation, tissue relaxation and
relief of arthritis, researchers have found various cellular changes that
could account for these remarkable healing benefits.

The laser energy is absorbed by metabolically active pigments of the

mitochondria in various cutaneous and subcutaneous layers of the skin,
which involves two enzymes of the oxidation chain, Cytochrome a/a3 and
Flavoprotein.

When the proper wavelengths are applied and absorbed, it is supposed

that the changes in the stereo-chemical conformation induced by an
electro magnetic field leads to an increase in activity and improves the
concentration of ATP by up to 200%. In addition, an increase in oxygen
and glucose metabolism is observed. A significant effect of LLLT is an
optimized function of the Na-K pump at the cell membrane, an increased
protein synthesis (prostaglandin, enzyme) and a significantly higher rate
of mitosis.

Depending on which cells are being stimulated, the following

physiological reactions have been observed in various medical studies,
and may help to explain why the cold laser is so effective for pain relief,
inflammation, increased circulation and relaxation of tissue.

VETERINARY USES OF COLD LASER THERAPY

Cold Laser Therapy is commonly used on animals as well as humans.
It is popular for use on horses, dogs and cats.

The main benefits to animals are that the Laser:

* Reduces inflammation
* Relieves pain
* Promotes circulation
* Supports natural, non-invasive, pain-free healing

As with all therapies, veterinary permission should always be sought

before treating any animal.

There are hundreds of research papers from academic sources to validate

the beneficial therapeutic effects of cold laser therapy for use with
animals. It has been used with competition horse training and
recovery for over 30 years. It has been used extensively for racehorses,
show jumpers, show horses, endurance horses, carriage horses, quarter
horses, old retired horses, ponies, show dogs and greyhounds.

Using the laser on wounds and muscle tissue speeds up the body's own
natural healing process several times over. This helps to prevent unsightly
scar tissue and the white hairs you so often see on old scar sites. The
treatment only takes a short time, can be done frequently and has no
known side effects, allowing your horse, dog or cat to return to health
quickly.
