Activities (30 MINUTES)

Activity #1 Animal Tag:

 I will begin by marking off four corners of the gym with pylons that will act as cages
 I will then explain the game to the students
 “For this game, I will choose one person to be it and they will be the zookeeper. Your goal
is to try to get the animals that have escaped back into their cages. I will then choose one
person to play the part of the monkey. Their job is to try to help the animals escape their
cages. I will then divide the remaining students into groups of 4. Each group will then get
to quickly decide what animal that group is. Once decided, they will tell me and the class
what animal they are. Whatever animal they choose, they also have to move like that
animal! So for example, a sloth would move very slow, a cheetah very fast, a kangaroo
hops, a horse gallops, etc.”
 “The students will all be able to run freely, but have to run depending what animal they
chose. They must run like the animal their group is so we know who is a part of what
group! The zookeeper is the tagger who is trying to get the animals back to their cages. So
if you get tagged then you must go back to your cage and wait there. The monkey is then
going around and setting those who are locked back in their cages free again! You cant
leave your cage after being tagged until the monkey comes by and lets you go”
 I will give the zookeeper (or zookeepers depending on class size) one color pinny and
then the monkey will have a different color pinny so that everyone knows who is who.

They will play this for 5-10 minutes.

Activity #2 Hoola hoop Rock/Paper/Scissors:

 I will set up a zigzag line of hoola hoops.
 I will then separate the class into two teams
 I will explain that for this game they are to jump with both legs through the hoola hoops
into they meet the person from the other team.
 Once they meet the person from the other team they must play ONE game of
rock/paper/scissors until one person wins. It is best out of ONE.
 It will be rock/paper/scissors SHOOT
 If you win the game, then you will keep going through the hoola hoops trying to reach the
other side. If you lose, then you step out of the hoola hoop and run to the back of YOUR
TEAMS line.
 If you make it to the other end then that is a point for your team!

We will play this for about 10 minutes or until everyone has at least gone once.

Activity #3 Floor Hockey:

With any remaining time the students will be able to get a partner, a stick, and a ball and practice
their passing or shoot on the net. Not everyone will be allowed to practice shooting on the nets,
only about 2 partner sets for each net (so 4 people). If everyone is wanting to shoot on the net
then we will make two single file lines and shoot.

Leave two minutes at the end to have the kids line up at the door, and allow them time to get
water before going to health and to get their pencil boxes.
