Self-Reflection

Over the course of this semester I have learned that college level writing involves much

more than writing a paper and turning it in. During this semester I grew into thinking more about

what words mean rather than just using them to fill a quota. This all culminated in the line of

inquiry essay which required precise word choice and the synthesis of multiple outside sources.

In regard to my other classes I have already used some of the tips I learned in this class to help

me find relevant scholarly sources for my philosophy 150 essay. Also, the pocket style manual

has helped me more than any other English book I have ever had. Furthermore, over the course

of the semester I have come to realize that outlining essays before writing them ultimately saves

time. All throughout high school I dreaded outlining my essays because it felt like a boring

formality, but I have come to love the organization and structure it provides the final essay. The

strengths of my writing are my ability to express ideas clearly, and concisely. As I continue to

develop as a writer I plan on learning more about English grammar and mechanics. On nearly all

essay’s this semester I struggled with both passive voice overuse and misplaced commas. Thanks

for a great first semester!
