Procedure
1. Prepare 3 clean 10ml glass vials.
2. Clean the 10ml glass vials with distilled water.
3. Pour 10ml of water sample (distilled water, filtered water, and unfiltered water) into
each of the 10ml glass vials.
4. Clean the outside of the glass vials with tissue paper before putting it inside the
spectrometer.
5. Firstly, place the distilled water sample into the spectrometer and set the value to 0
mg/L.
6. Then, place the filtered and unfiltered water sample into the spectrometer.
7. Record and tabulate the reading obtained from the spectrometer.

(2) Biochemical Oxygen Demand, BOD & DO (Group Khai)

Procedure
a. To the sample collected in a 250- to 300-mL bottle, add 1
mL MnSO4 solution, followed by 1 mL alkali-iodide-azide re-
agent. If pipets are dipped into sample, rinse them before return-
ing them to reagent bottles. Alternatively, hold pipet tips just
above liquid surface when adding reagents. Stopper carefully to
exclude air bubbles and mix by inverting bottle a few times.
When precipitate has settled sufficiently (to approximately half
the bottle volume) to leave clear supernate above the manganese
hydroxide floc, add 1.0 mL conc H2SO4. Restopper and mix by
inverting several times until dissolution is complete. Titrate a
volume corresponding to 200 mL original sample after correc-
tion for sample loss by displacement with reagents. Thus, for a
total of 2 mL (1 mL each) of MnSO4 and alkali-iodide-azide
reagents in a 300-mL bottle, titrate 200 300/(300 2) -
201
mL.

b. Titrate with 0.025M Na2S2O3 solution to a pale straw color.

Add a few drops of starch solution and continue titration to first
disappearance of blue color. If end point is overrun, back-titrate
with 0.0021M bi-iodate solution added dropwise, or by adding a
measured volume of treated sample. Correct for amount of
bi-iodate solution or sample. Disregard subsequent recolorations
due to the catalytic effect of nitrite or to traces of ferric salts that
have not been complexed with fluoride.
(3) Chemical Oxygen Demand, COD. (Group wong wei wen)

Procedure:
A. Reactor Digestion
1. COD reactor is turned on and preheated it to 150 oC.
2. The plastic shield is then placed in front of the reactor.
3. Sample of 500ml is then homogenized in a blender.
4. COD digestion reagent vial cap need to be removed for appropriate range
and the vial held at 45 degree angle.
5. 2ml of sample need to be pipette into the vial.
6. Vial cap is replaced tightly and the exterior of the COD vial must be rinsed
with deionized water and clean with clean towel.
7. Cap of the vial is hold over the sink and inverted gently few times to mix
the contents.
8. The vial is placed in the preheated COD reactor.
9. Repeat step 4. to 8. with substitution of 2 ml deionized water for the sample.
10. The vials need to be heated for 2 hours.
11. After 2 hour, the reactor is turned off and the vials are left for about 25
minutes to cool down to 120 oC or less. The vials are tilted several times
while it still in warm condition.
12. Cool the vials to room temperature by placing it on the rack.

B. Colorimetric Determination
1. Enter the stored program number for COD, high range by pressing PRGM.
2. Press enter to show the display of mg/L, COD and ZERO icon.
3. Insert COD/TNT adapter into the cell holder by rotating the adapter until it
drops into place and push it down so that it is fully inserted.
4. Clean the blank with towel.
5. Place the sample vial into the adapter and firmly cover the vial with the
cap.
6. Press the ZERO button and move the pointer to the right side for the
display to show 0 mg/L COD.
7. After clean the exterior of the sample vial, put it into the adapter.
8. Press the READ button and move the pointer to the right to show the
result of COD in the display screen
(4) Ammonia (NH3N) (Group Jimmy)

Link: https://www.hach.com/asset-get.download-en.jsa?id=7639983747
Procedure
1. Start program and prepare the sample by filling a square sample cell to the 10 –mL
mark.
2. Fill a square sample cell to cylinder to the 10-ml line with deionized water.
3. Add the contents of one Ammonia Salicylate Powder Pillow to each cell.
4. Shake to mix and dissolve. A three-minute reaction period begin.
5. When the timer expires, add the contents of one Ammonia Reagent Powder Pillow to
each cell.
6. Shake to mix and dissolve. A 15-minute reaction period begin. A green color will
develop if ammonia-nitrogen is present.
7. When the timer expires, insert the cylinder into the cell holder.
8. Press ZERO. The displays show 0.00mg/L NH3-N.
9. Wipe the sample and insert it into the cell holder.
10. Push READ. Result show in mg/L NH3-N.

Procedure
1. Prepare 2 clean 10ml glass vials.
2. Clean the 10ml glass vials with distilled water.
3. Pour 10ml of water sample (filtered water, and unfiltered water) into each of the 10ml
glass vials.
4. Calibrate with standard solution and ensure there is no bubble in solution.
5. Clean the outside of the glass vials with tissue paper before putting it inside the
turbidity meter.
6. Place the filtered and unfiltered water sample into the turbidity meter.
7. Record and tabulate the reading obtained from the spectrometer.

(7) Noise (Group Fred)

Procedure
1. For this noise pollution lab, we will firstly find a suitable noise detector phone application
in order to act as our equipment for testing the noise level at the construction site.

2. Each of us are being assigned with the respective task in order to have better efficiency.

3. A tested area of construction area is being chosen which is as shown in the section
aforementioned.

4. Then, we must visit the site and arranging a schedule with the site supervisor for testing
noise level.

5. When we reach the construction site, we will open our apps chosen, which is the Decibel X
reader app and record the video for every ten minutes in a duration of half an hour.

6. Within the video shooting, a few parameters are being taken which are average noise level,
minimum and maximum noise level and the peak value during the duration of noise
pollution test.

7. After we take the video, all the parameters are being recorded in the tables such as the
dates, duration, time and all the observations during the noise test.
