The project manager’s responsibilities to members of the project team are dictated by the

finite nature of the project itself and the specialized nature of the team. Because the project

is, by definition, a temporary entity and must come to an end, the PM must be concerned

with the future of the people who serve on the team. If the PM does not get involved in

helping project workers with the transition back to their functional homes or to new

projects, then as the project nears completion, project workers will pay more and more

attention to protecting their own future careers and less to completing the project on time.

Work-Experience Application: When I was an engineer in Taiwan, most of the project

managers asked project workers need to learn new skill or knowledge by working. We

couldn't handle all of the problems, and we might encounter new challenges that we didn't

face before. So, project workers in a new task force team, they can learn more than in their

functional departments. Due to project workers in functional departments, they usually

don't need to corporate with others from other departments so much. However, in a task

force team, they can learn more. According to my ex-company request, every worker wants
to get a promotion. They need to have two mega project experiences. All project managers

will give new workers more time and more opportunities to learn new skills or get more

training. Therefore, I think my company and my project manager did the right thing.

e. The need to obey local laws and customs. In countries where poverty is widespread or

political unrest is high, there may be a risk of being kidnapped for ransom. In addition,

some countries carry an increased risk of disease.

Work-Experience Application: When I was doing RAPID (Refinery and Petrochemical

Integrated Development) project in Taiwan, my company had to recruit some Malayans

and cooperator with local law firms, accounting firms, and contractors to help us deal

with all of the things. Due to they know well about Malaysia law, people, and tradition.

They know how to deal with local officials, local environment, and local culture. So,
recruiting local companies is so important for my company. We save a lot of time and

money because of them. Moreover, we also bought construction materials and hired local

people to build a refinery and petrochemical plant. We created many job opportunities for

local government.
