This is a COLLEGE REQUIREMENT

UPLOAD LINK PROVIDED BY STUDENT ONCE YOU UPLOAD IN E PORTFOLIO
HERE are the new questions for the E PORTFOLIO ASSIGNMENT.
Write at least 3-4 sentences for each question. Reflect on these questions after taking this course.
How have you grown as a thinker and as a student?
In many ways this course challenges you and requires a lot of critical thinking. It is a thought provoking quote
that asked you many different questions that we are not normally confronted with in a regular class room.
When attempting to answer these questions we gain a lot of skills that include critical thinking and a certain
type of wisdom. I have no doubt those skills will be useful in many of my future courses.
Do you now answer these questions differently? Of course, you can write more if you wish.
Complete these questions, upload to your E Portfolio profile and upload the link to our canvas website by the
deadline.
You must answer all of the questions below for full credit. Writing less than 3 minimum sentences will
result in point deductions. This is a very important Post Reflective Assignment.

1. How do you better understand what a philosopher is?

-I guess I would say that I now view them as more than just old wise men. Of course they are that but they are so much
more. The history behind philosophy in context with those times is just as interesting as the fun questions we went over
in class. I kind of think of philosophy as spear heading modern revolutionist and scientist a like. Science by questioning
the ideas of the times with analyzing how things in the world are physically happening and providing evidence.

2. Do you consider yourself a philosopher now?

-Yeah. I really took the Socrates quote to heart. “An unexamined life is not worth living”. I took a lot out of that, most
importantly to actually think of goals and why I really want to do what I want. I like to challenge myself and to think
about more critically.

3. How has your perspective on life changed or not changed over the semester?

-One of the biggest changes would be my view on free will. I guess like most people I used to think that we had total
free will but after taking this course my views have definitely evolved on that topic. Now I’m somewhere in the middle.
A soft determinist.

4. Are you more aware of how philosophy can improve your life?

-Yes. I love thinking more about the universe and how science and philosophy co-exist and can help answer questions in
each other’s fields. It makes me feel more positive to know we are part of this universe.

5. What did you like best about reading about Socrates and his famous quotes?

-I like how it’s not trying to lean you towards an agenda. Like politically or religiously. It just encourages you to think for
yourself, think critically. Nothing more or less.

6. What did you like best about reading about Plato and Aristotle?
-I like how they were both really big in their time and after despite some major differences. They were not afraid to
contrast each other. I think that’s my favorite because they were just doing themselves.

7. What did you like best about reading about the concept of a soul or self?

-How we approached the idea of a soul was interesting. The many concepts and options on souls are fun because they
give you a lot of different varieties. Also I like that even science is trying to cross into that question.

8. What did you like best about reading about the concept of freedom and free will?

-I liked how many view there are on this matter. Each one present well-crafted arguments and really made me consider
each one as the right one. That’s when you know how interesting a concept is. When there are many good arguments
for a variety of views.

9. What did you like best about reading about the concept of what is real and reality?

-I would say it was more intriguing. To really follow the argument I had to have a more open mind so I tried to. Knowing
that we couldn’t entirely trust our senses was really eye opening for me.

10. What did you like best or least best about writing the Papers?

-I enjoyed how interesting the topics were. It was the most fun I had because I felt I could just lay out my opinions and
from there it was really easy. My ideas just flowed right out.

11. What did you like best or least about participating in the YouTube video clips?

-Getting different perspective. Hearing other’s personal stories and experiences is always fun. It gives a special type of
insight that I really like.

12. What did you like best or least about the movie clips?

-I’m a huge movie fan to be honest. Anytime I can be introduced to new movies that have philosophy in it is always a
good time. I especially loved American Beauty.

13. What was your favorite topic that we discussed this semester and why?

-Free will. I liked learning all the different viewpoints and how strong the arguments can be for each.

14. What did you like best or least best about the homework assignments?

-I liked that they were always there to encourage us to read our text book and follow along with the themes of the
lectures. They never felt off topic or anything of the sort. They kept you up to date in a sense.

15. What was your favorite philosopher we learned about this semester and why? Why or why not?

-I liked Socrates. Mainly because he was the first to really question the way things were explained. He challenged
authority and that was brave.

16. Overall, what have you learned over the semester and how has it improved your critical thinking skills, your
awareness of being a philosopher and your overall perspective on life?

-The main takeaways would be to think critically about life. I think those skills have been greatly improved. I think for
myself more and try to have good positions based on facts and evidence. My perspective on life has changed in the way
that I don’t like to feel like a robot anymore. I want to feel alive and enjoy it.

17. Would you consider taking another philosophy class? Why or why not?

-Yes. I thought it was a lot of fun and would definitely love another one.

18. Any personal message to me?

-Just thank you for being a great professor and always trying to keep the whole class involved and entertained. It always
felt like you cared about the engagement of your students and that’s always refreshing. So thank you again!
