Criszel.

Class secretary is there anyone absent today? “Yes/No”

Okay!

Class! “Yes”
Class! Class! “Yes! Yes!”
Are you familiar with the game mobile legends? “Yes teacher”
I have here set of ranking system. These rankings will serve
as your pointing system later on your activities.

Pointing System:
1 star = 1 correct answer per activity/recitation
-1 star = if the group or someone in
the group is noisy.
1

= if someone caught doing unrelated thing

during the discussion.
= if someone caught using their phones.
= if someone removes his/her crown.

Does our pointing system clear to you class? “Yes”

Okay! Very Good! If you want to accumulate the greatest
number of points during our discussion and activities, be
active and avoid those things that will lessen the number of
stars you gain.

ENGAGEMENT
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
Before we proceed in our today’s discussion. Let’s know first
our objectives for today.

May I request someone to please read our objectives. “Our objectives for our first activity are to:
a) identify different emotions of an individual to a
certain situation; and
b) describe the role of hormone and cell receptor in
the body”.
Now that we all know our first activity objective, let’s get
started. Are you excited for our first activity? “Yes teacher.”

Class! “Yes”
Class! Class! “Yes! Yes!”

Our first activity is entitled “Match and Act”

I have here set of puzzle pieces with an H and R label. H
represents HORMONE while R represents as a RECEPTOR.
As I distribute this puzzle pieces, you need to find your pair
and act the situation written in this puzzle pieces.

Is that clear class? “Yes”

It seems that everybody has their puzzle piece now.

Now look on your puzzle piece. Those who get an “R”
(Receptor) label piece must remain stand still or freeze while “Students scatters in the middle of the classroom.”
those who get an “H” (Hormone) label piece must move
around to find your respective R pair. I will give you 30
seconds to find your pair and another 30 seconds to plan for
your action written on your puzzle piece.
You may now scatter here in the middle without making any “Actor students will freeze, R students will sit and the H
noise as I count 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. students will find their corresponding R pair.”

Safety Reminder: Be careful not to bumped your classmates

while doing the activity.

2
5E Lesson Plan: ENDOCRINE SYSTEM

Times Up! Let us now watch your prepared actions.

Remember that you have to identify the emotions being “Students acting.”
portrayed by your classmates.

H and R Pairs Task:

 Running away from danger.
 Falling in love.
 A pregnant woman.
 Athletes burn up calories during exercise.
 Eating something sweet.
 Deepening of voice.
 A sick person.
 A kid growing taller.
 Falling asleep.

Note: Every student will receive a star if they find their match
correctly and another star if they are able to act the situation
properly.

It seems that everybody found their match and was able to act
the situation given to you properly. Later we will further
understand the role of hormone and cell receptor in our body.

Let’s give yourselves a victory clap!

You may now go back to your proper places. Those stars that
you have earn will be an additional point later to your
respective groups in our next activity. Thus, kindly keep your
stars if you want your group get the greatest number of stars
in our ranking board.

EXPLANATION
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

Wow! It seems that everyone is participating very well! Who “Red Squad”
got the highest rank as of the moment?

Very good! Let’s give red squad a victory clap! *Victory clap*

Let’s discuss now the parts, functions, and the hormones

released by each gland in the endocrine system.

But, first, let’s define the endocrine system. For 3 stars, can It's a network of glands throughout the body that regulate

metabolism, growth, and sexual development.

Very Good! Here’s your stars, you may now post it in your Thank you, teacher!
ranking board.

Now, let’s take a look to its parts and functions. Based from “I can, teacher!”
our activity earlier, who can recite the nine parts of endocrine
systems, with their eyes close? The students who will recite
will receive 5 stars.

Okay! What are the nine parts of endocrine system? hypothalamus, pituitary gland, thyroid gland, parathyroid
gland, pineal gland, thymus gland, adrenal gland,
pancreas, and gonads (testes & ovaries).

Very well said! Here’s your five stars! Please give him a *Victory Clap*
victory clap.

Which gland of the endocrine and nervous system controls The pituitary gland controls the output of other glands in
the other glands in the body? the body.

How will you differentiate thyroid and parathyroid glands in The thyroid gland is located below the voice box and
terms of location in the problem? regulates body metabolism by producing calcitonin that
reduces blood calcium level; while parathyroid gland is
located on the thyroid glands and produces parathormone
that increases blood calcium levels and normalizes bone
growth.

If a person’s blood sugar level becomes unstable, what The person’s pancreas is possible involved when blood
glands might involved in the problem? sugar level becomes unstable.

5E Lesson Plan: ENDOCRINE SYSTEM

How important is the thymus gland in keeping your body free The thymus gland enables the body to produce T-cells
from disease? that help in fighting infections and diseases.

What might happen to a person born without thymus gland? A person born without a thymus gland will not develop an
adaptive immune system and may eventually die.

How will you explain the sudden boost of energy, increased

strength and extraordinary ability to lift very heavy objects The adrenal gland produces adrenaline that enables that
especially during emergency situations? body to have the energy in doing spontaneous work
during emergency situations.

Why does the menstrual cycle stop during menopause?

During menopause there is a significant change of
hormone levels produced by the ovaries which eventually
stops the menstrual cycle.
ELABORATION (NEXT SESSION)

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

Before we proceed in our today’s discussion. Let us know first
our objectives for today.

May I request someone to please read our learning ojectives. “Our objectives
are to:
a) identify how feedback mechanism helps control
the balance of hormones in the body.
b) cite the importance of knowing the effects of
hormonal imbalance in the body.
Now that we all know our objectives, let’s get started. I have
a question for three stars.

What do you think are the causes of endocrine disorders? “Endocrine diseases arise when a gland produces too
much or too little hormone in our body.”

Very Good! Here’s your stars, you may post it later in your
ranking board.

Next question, what do you call the imbalance in the “Hormonal Imbalance”
production hormone
In the body?

May you please read the definition of Hormonal Imbalance. “It occurs when there is an excessive or too little amount
of hormone in the bloodstream which affects bodily
processes.”

Thank you! Now let us know the examples of hormonal

imbalance.

6
5E Lesson Plan: ENDOCRINE SYSTEM

What disorder/dysfunction do you think may arise if the “If there is too little secretion of growth hormones by the
pituitary gland is not producing enough growth hormones? pituitary gland it may result to stunted growth or
DWARFISM.”
Very Good! Let’s now proceed to the next question.

What do you think will happen to a person with an excessive “Excessive secretion of growth hormones by the pituitary
secretion of growth hormones from the pituitary gland? gland may cause too much growth to a person or
GIGANTISM.”

Very Good! Now that you know some examples of effects of

hormonal imbalance in the body. Can you cite the importance
of knowing the effects hormonal imbalance?

Very Good! This is your star! Did you know that our body has “Yes teacher.”
its own way to maintain our hormones in balance?

Alright! For three stars, what mechanism in the body do you “Feedback Mechanism”
think controls the balance of hormones in the body?

May you please read the definition of Feedback Mechanism. “The endocrine’s feedback mechanism helps to control
the balance of hormones in the bloodstream through
producing signals to the glands to produce the correct
amount of hormone in the bloodstream.”

Thank you! Let us further understand how feedback

mechanism helps maintain our hormones in balance. There
are two types of feedback mechanism. First is the Negative
Feedback.

May you please read the definition of Negative Feedback. “When there is an enough hormone in the body, the body
stops producing the hormone until it is needed again.”

Here is our example:

Thank you! Let’s move on to the second type – Positive “It occurs when the glands continually produce hormones
Feedback. in the bloodstream during bodily processes.”

May you please read the definition of Negative Feedback.

Here is our example:

Class! Now that you know the two types of feedback “Negative feedback produces hormones whenever it is
mechanism, for five stars, who can differentiate negative needed while positive feedback continually produces
feedback from positive feedback? hormones in the bloodstream.”

Very Good! Here are your stars! Now you already know how
our body maintain our hormones in balance. It is really evident
7
5E Lesson Plan: ENDOCRINE SYSTEM

in our discussion that our endocrine system plays a vital role

in our body. It helps us regulates certain body functions, like
body temperature, metabolism, growth, and sexual
development. It is also important to know the importance of
knowing the effects of hormonal imbalance in our body so we
can make supplementary actions that will help our body
regulate its system in its normal mode.

Now, let us now know which among the squads have the
greatest number of stars in our ranking system. Who do you
think get the highest rank?

It looks like all of you did great today! Congratulations ____

for being _______.

Give yourselves a victory clap!
