WESTINGHOUSE RAIL SYSTEMS

WESTLED Series 3000

A range of LED colour light signals
Westinghouse WESTLED LED signals are designed for use in multiple aspect signalling
schemes for both Main Line and Metro systems. Signals are available in 1, 2, 3 or 4 aspect,
200mm and 125mm versions.

FEATURES
• Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology offers the ultimate in reliability, resulting in
fewer train delays and lower maintenance costs.

• Phantom aspect free design. Lens covers designed for minimum sun reflection.

• High Intensity - Wide viewing angle.

• High strength, lightweight - e.g. a 4-aspect signal complete, 28 kg.

• Constant intensity over wide voltage range, typical 78V-131V.

• Compliant with Network Rail category 1 specification

(readable distance >800 metres).

• Lamp proving equivalent to existing Network Rail standards.

• Dual redundant Power Controller for reliability and graceful degradation with
Non-Urgent Alarm.

• Compatible with SSI, WESTLOCK and Relay based signalling.

• IP54 rating for signal head & IP65 for LED light units.

• 4 kV rms (1minute) immune.

• Interchangeable with standard filament lamp signals.

• Mechanical coding to prevent incorrect replacement of light units.

DESCRIPTION
The illustration shows a typical 4 aspect series 3000 signal, comprising an
aluminium casting with integral display board and rear access door. Individual
LED units are secured into the casting using three clamps. Wiring connections
are plug-coupled.LED Unit Assemblies comprise a pre-focussed acrylic lens with
polycarbonate outer cover and 88 LEDs divided between two separate LED
arrays. Each LED array is powered by a dedicated power controller circuit
which ensures constant intensity over an input voltage range of 78V to 131V
ac 50/60 Hz.
LED Units are available in Red, Yellow, Green, White and Blue.

Failure of one Power Controller or associated LED array results in 50% of the
LEDs becoming extinguished and a Non-Urgent Alarm output being indicated to
the interlocking.

Failure of both Power Controllers results in all LEDs becoming extinguished and an Urgent Alarm being indicated to the
interlocking.

The LED units are provided with test buttons and rear facing indicators to enable the testing of each individual power
controller circuit and LED arrays.

A ballast resistor ensures that each aspect draws the same current as the equivalent filament lamp.

Maintenance Strategy
• At annual maintenance, check for individual LED failures and clean the outer front
cover.

• Partial failure (50% of LED’s extinguished) of any aspect indicates Non Urgent Alarm.

• Total failure indicated by aspect drawing <50 mA, detected by interlocking as Urgent
Alarm.

• Change aspect module on receipt of Urgent or Non-Urgent Alarm.
