INDEX OF DEVELOPMENT
Gauging national development combines several factors that must be taken into
consideration. These factors are those that are contributory to a country’s increase in
income, those that go against poverty and those that adds up to the country’s stand against
the other countries. Several of these factors are education, economy, infrastructures and
technology.

Education
Education is defined as a process on which knowledge is transmitted from one
generation to the other. It is the most fundamental building block of human development and
poverty reduction. The following are metrics for the education index:
● Literacy rate
● Children out of school
● Percentage of school completion
● Mean years in school

Economy
The level of income generated within the country and by its citizens, relative to the
other countries, also denotes the condition of the country and how it may be able to provide
funds for programs that are of beneficial for the country as a whole. The distribution of
income across individuals and households, and the economic policies concerned with this are
also of relative importance in encouraging economic growth. The following are metrics for the
economy index:
● Average Aid given per person
● Debt Servicing Cost
● External Debt
● Total Reserves
● Income Growth per Person
● Consumer Price Index
● Inflation-adjusted Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita
● Poverty Rate
● Gross Capital Formation
● Tax Revenue

Infrastructure
Infrastructures are the basic physical and organizational structures needed for the
operation of a society or enterprise. The importance of these services and facilities come in

the form the of necessity for an economy to function. The following are metrics for the
infrastructure index:
● Percentage of roads paved
● Percentage of people with access to water
● Percentage of people with electricity
● Number of people per public hospital
● Vehicles per 1000 persons

Technology
The advancement of the technology available in a country denotes a more efficient
production of goods and services by a country. With this, lesser resources are put to waste,
thus translating to greater efficiency and productivity. The following are metrics for the
technology index:
● Technology Factor Productivity
● Technology adaptation rate
