Subject: Monolith’s Team Charter
Date: 25 September 2018

Mission Statement
Team Monolith’s mission is to create a technical guide on how to replace
faulty parts of the Alienware M17x P01E laptop. We will create the
technical guide according to the roadmap and milestones instructions listed under the standard
projects tab found on the edu.iFixit.com webpage. The technical guide will be written for a global
audience. Instructions will be written clearly and as simply as possible for first time users, those
with a reading disability, and for those who do not speak English. It is our understanding that our
work will be translated to other languages, so we will not be using any vernacular phrases or
idioms.

Team Members
Jose Mercado Project Manager
Grant Dolmat Research Manager
Kevin Palacios Photo Editing Manager
Andrew Ruvalcaba Editing Manager

Expectations
This team project will rely on member input and contributions. In addition, members will have
their own individual work to complete. In-person meetings will take place after class for 45 min
on Mondays and Wednesdays, or as needed. Work will be done as a group, either in person or
online using Google Docs. Members will communicate through email and text. Team members
are expected to:
● Actively participate and provide thoughtful feedback
● Complete and submit assignments prior to deadline
● Create quality work to the best of their ability
● Reply to emails/ texts within a 12-hr. period
● Attend all scheduled meetings

Conflict Resolution
It is the responsibility of all team members to create a cordial and productive work environment.
A way to accomplish this is to keep communication open. Communication barriers create
misunderstandings, which are a major source of conflict within team projects (Townsley, n.d.).
The Team Building Directory website lists communication barriers as: “poor listening skills;
insufficient sharing of information; differences in interpretation and perception; and nonverbal
cues being ignored or missed” (Townsley, n.d.). Each team member should be aware of any
communication barriers they may be creating. If any team member becomes concerned about a
possible source of conflict, it should be addressed quickly and informally between individuals.

In the event of a conflict, team members will use the steps outlined by Sonya Krakoff (n.d.) to
resolve said conflict. These steps are outlined on the Champlain University website and show
how to quickly address conflict to avoid further issues. The steps are as followed:
● Do not ignore conflict- Conflict does not go away on its own and will typically get worse.
It is best to address conflict sooner rather than later to avoid future issues.
● Identify the problem- Identifying the problem is the first step in trying to resolve it.
● Talk it out- Once the problem has been identified, both parties can now actively listen to
each other to come to an understanding.
● Solution- Both parties need to work together to find a solution.
● Monitor- Check in with both parties to monitor the progress of the conflict resolution.
(Krakoff, n.d.)
*Any conflict that cannot be resolved within the group will be addressed by Dr. Bruce and can
lead to the termination of a group member.

Discipline Policy & Termination Clause

A progressive discipline policy will be used and will follow as such: a verbal warning will be
given first, followed by a written notice (a copy will be given to Dr. Bruce), and lastly, a final
notice given by Dr. Bruce. Any incident that occurs after the final notice will result in termination.
Team members will receive progressive disciplines, and possibly termination, for the following
Charter breaches:
● Plagiarism
● Not complying with the expectations outlined above
● Frequent late and unsatisfactory work
● Creating a hostile work environment
