Detailed Record

Week: 1 Activities: PSEL Standards:

10/22- ● Mentor meetings with new teacher ● Standard 7.
10/26 Professional
Community for
Teachers and Staff

Activities Reflection: Over the course of the school year, I have been tasked with serving as
a mentor for a new teacher in the building. As mentor, my obligation is help assist the teacher
with getting to the inner workings of the building and district. Now that the school year is off
the ground, I have scheduled weekly meetings to check in on the progress of the new teacher.
Our meetings are conversation based and provide us with a time to look at areas of teaching
and the school system. I can provide answers and feedback when needed.

PSEL Analysis: Standard 7 includes the development and support of an open, productive,
caring and trusting working relationships among leaders, faculty, and staff to promote
professional capacity in the improvement of practice. It is during this time that I am able to
provide an opportunity for new teachers to get acclimated to their surroundings without feeling
overwhelmed.

Week: 2 Activities: PSEL Standards:

10/29- ● “Night on the Turf” (Sporting Event)  Standard 8.
11/2 ● Family Literacy Night Meaningful
Engagement of
Families and
Community

Activities Reflection: On Thursday, November 2, the middle school interscholastic Fall sport
teams traveled to the local high school to take on the cross-town middle school under the
lights on the high school playing fields. This is a great opportunity for students to get to play
under the lights in a much larger and better venue than they’re used to playing. During this
time, I was able to meet with parents of students from the school, share the experience on
multiple social media platforms, and share in the experience of the student athletes.
Additionally, in the same night, the Literacy Support Team here at school put on a night of
events incorporating local authors, writers, illustrators, and guest speakers for members of the
community to come in and experience. During this time, I transformed the band room into a
“Coffee House” setting where student musicians had an opportunity to read poetry, perform
songs, and more.

PSEL Analysis: Standard 8 includes creating and sustaining a positive, collaborative, and
productive relationship with families and the community to the benefit of the students, create
means for the school community to partner with families to support student learning in and out
of school, and building and sustaining productive partnerships with public and private sectors
to promote school improvement and student learning.

Week: 3 Activities: PSEL STANDARDS:

11/5- ● Mentor Meeting  Standard 5:
11/9 ● Thanksgiving Food Basket Brain Storm Community of Care
and Support for
Students

Activities Reflection: Through this week of work, I have continued to work the new teacher
in mentoring him through work and through communication. This week, our focus has been on
teacher-parent communication. Together we brainstormed ways in which he can reach out on
a weekly/bi-weekly basis with parents of students in his program. Additionally, I have been
fortunate enough to work with our student volunteer programs in brainstorming ideas and
goals for our Thanksgiving Food Drive taking place in the next weeks. Each year, our building
generates food to assemble baskets for families within our community that are in need during
the holiday season.

PSEL Analysis: Standard 5 includes the concept of “promoting adult-student, student-peer,

and school-community relationships that and support academic learning and positive social
and emotional development”. Through this standard, our student volunteer programs are
working to develop ways in which to get our students to reach out to members of our
community that are in need.

Week: 4 Activities: PSEL STANDARDS:

11/12- ● Mentor Meeting  Standard 8:
11/16 ● Thanksgiving Food Basket Drive Meaningful
Engagement of
Families and
Community

Activities Reflection: This week, I have been working with my protégé teacher in organizing
the logistics behind the details of the upcoming holiday concert in our instrumental program.
Through the meetings, we have been able to develop communications to families, organizing
work with our high school volunteers in terms what the needs are for setup, transitions and
breakdown of the concert, and working with our parent lead booster organization in printing
programs for the event. As our Thanksgiving Food Basket drive took off this week, we were
faced with a dilemma in that our numbers for supplies was dangerously low. A meeting was
held in which I could work with the student and teacher leaders of our student volunteer
organizations to develop a plan to generate more items for our baskets. We could collect
almost 1,000lbs of food over the course of a few days by implementing a fun contest pitting
classes against each other to see who could generate the most food in pounds.

PSEL Analysis: Standard 8 includes the idea of creating means for the school community to
partner with families to support student learning in and out of school. Through this week, we
have enabled our students to reach out to their families and staff members to generate food to
help construct our baskets for the families in need. Students have spent hours after school
organizing the many pounds of food into boxes to help make the basket packing process
easier.

Week: 5 Activities: PSEL Standard:

11/19- ● Mentor Meeting  Standard 8:
11/23 ● Thanksgiving Basket Drop-off Meaningful
Engagement of
Families and
Community

Activities Reflection: With a short week of classes due to Thanksgiving, this week consisted
of routine meetings with my teacher protégé and spending a day loading and delivering
Thanksgiving Food Baskets to families in the Plymouth community. Monday was spent
working with our student volunteers loading and delivering 45 food baskets to students in
need.

PSEL Analysis: Through this week and standard 8, our school community was in touch with
families who were in need for food to help celebrate not only Thanksgiving but to help get
them through the next few weeks heading into the holiday season. Much of our time was
spent in low-income sections of our community providing student’s families with baskets. It
was a humbling experience and one that I’m hoping to be a part of in the years to come but
also to get more teachers involved.

Week: 6 Activities: PSEL Standard:

11/26- ● Mentor Meeting  Standard 7:
11/30 ● Staff Event Planning Professional
● Mentor Observation Community for
Teachers and Staff

Activities Reflection: During week 6, I could spend some time in my protégé’s classroom. It
was during this time that I could see how his classroom management skills, organization, and
teaching practices were being applied. After a short time in the classroom, I could write down
a list of comments for feedback and discussion which we will utilize next week during our next
meeting. Additionally, I oversee organizing the upcoming staff holiday party. In preparation for
the party, I reach out to our staff members to get input from everyone before bringing ideas to
the table. Once I’ve received feedback, I meet with a small group of volunteers and we
develop ideas for the party. Once everyone’s in agreement, I contact a local restaurant and
discuss the details of the party including food, cost, and entertainment. From there I work to
develop posters and emails to get the word out to the 150 teachers and staff members at
school.
PSEL Analysis: Standard 7 reads, “Empower and entrust teachers and staff with collective
responsibility for meeting the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs of each
student, pursuant to the mission, vision, and core values of the school.” During these
observations, I use the time to not pick apart the teacher and provide them only items that
need work, I make sure that my feedback is positive and highlights the many good things that
are going on in the room and allow, through healthy, professional, dialogue from him to
discuss some problem areas that he needs assistance in.

Week: 7 Activities: PSEL Standard:

12/3- ● Mentor Meeting  Standard 8:
12/7 ● Staff Event Planning Meaningful
● MS Athletic Director Meeting Engagement of
Families and
Community

Activities Reflection: Throughout this week, in addition to preparing for a concert featuring
our grade 6, 7, and 8 concert band and strings students, I could schedule time with our middle
school athletic director to discuss the winter and spring sports scheduling and to get the ball
rolling for developing and implementing a new way communication is provided to students,
teachers and families regarding the team’s practices and games. At the start of the week, I
met with the owner of the local establishment that will be holding our annual holiday party on
Friday to review food menu items, cost, and room planning. Finally, I could spend time with
the new teacher to begin reviewing grading procedures, classroom management, and
assessment.

PSEL Analysis: This week began the process of collecting data from our interscholastic
sports program in anticipation of working alongside the coaches and athletic director to align
the way information is being communicated with families. The progress that I have made thus
far in the collection of data has been very beneficial in developing the next steps. The goal of
this project is to ensure that all methods of communication used by the building is understood
to ensure all communication is being passed along to those who need to hear it.
