Reflection 3

Lesson Homes around the world Student teacher Fatema Altenaiji

Class Grade 2 Date 21/October/2018

Overall aim and context of the lesson: Questioning students about their prior knowledge of homes around
world and assess their understanding of the materials used to build it and the climate in each one.

Select (S):
This lesson is a final lesson of the unit of homes, establishes how students would explain why certain houses are
built with certain materials in various climates.

Describe (D):
This lesson if for grade 2 students in science class, in this lesson I am trying to focus student's attention through
the explanation part as a complete to the 5E used in the previous lesson of homes. Through providing an
appropriate activity to demonstrate students conceptual understanding about homes around the world. By asking
students to Explain materials used for each home with describe the weather in that specific place after explaining
about different homes around the world in the PPT. in the elaborate students were asked to draw one of the
homes and write a sentence about it. in both stages' students are describing the home, material, or weather to
the teacher as she rotates around the groups and ask them and relate to the real life.

Analyze (A):
I think the students responded the way they did, because they are getting involved with the teacher as she provide
a question and make a conversation with students about the homes through asking and relating to the real life .
"Making real-world connections promotes student achievement through the authenticity of the learning. " (Real
world connection, 2018) I think also that my teaching relates to the student's prior knowledge as I we discuss the
homes around the world through questioning them about it and they were engaged in trying to answer

Appraise (A):
In my opinion the nature of the experience from student's perspective was good as students were explaining why
some homes has a pointed roof and why other homes are building with specific material in various climate.
I think that my lesson meets the teaching goals and but for the best in the next lessons.

Transform (T):
For this lesson In the future I might enhance students learning by changing the style of activity of drawing a one
home to asking them to draw a specific kind of home with a specific weather to improve the process skills more
