Teaching Practice Task 2: Peer Observation

Learning Outcome positive environment, 4 – considering individual differences and 5 – timing)

Objective: You will identify good teaching and learning strategies. You will note teaching strategies that
your peer used that you consider very useful and you would want to use. This strategy can deal with the use
of materials and technology, the review of prior learning, the motivation of the children, the presentation of
the materials, the appropriateness of the practice activities, classroom management strategies, timing
strategies, reviewing the lesson, general assessment of the learning. You should observe for 20 minutes.

Teaching characteristic Comments

1. Organization
Appropriate organization of content. Planning the use of
resources and materials.
2. Presentation
Clear introduction, continuity with other sessions and
students’ knowledge. Clarity of aims and objectives.
Clarity of presentation and organization. Appropriate pace
and timing. Attempts to respond to student needs.
Attitude to students (manner, style). Summary and
reference to future work.
3. Teaching approach and aids
Choice of teaching/learning approach and its relevance to
learner group. Methods used to check/evaluate learning.
Choice and use of teaching activities. Effective use of
question and answer. Encouragement of student
interaction.
The materials are prepared on each group that is good.
Dalal used the board to explain for students the
subtraction and addition problems and how to use these
operations at supermarket.
Poor instructions. Dalal did not give enough of
instructions that led to lose the students attention and
misbehavior. She can next class use maybe A3 paper and
model it on the board and make an activity with whole
class this will be better for students to understand.
The teacher helps the students when they ask her to
check their work.
The teacher did not any strategy for the students with not
good behavior.
The teacher tries to encourage the students and she
said'' If you finish and did very well, I will give you
candies''
I think If the teacher evaluates on of the groups who is
finish and say' 'look at this group for example (green
group) they finish, and they try to finish the second
activity good job and give them a clap. That will be so
good, and the other students will be excited to finish their
work.
4. Student response
Level of participation. Level of attention and interest. The students were very missy, they need to use strong
General class atmosphere. strategy with them to manage their behavior for
example, use the red chart to put the students name and
then send it to their parents. (the red chart means that
the student did not response to the teacher, don’t listen
and talking) All the students scared from this chart
because they do not want to make their parents sad.
5. General observations Good lesson, need to give very clear instructions for kids
to keep them on track.
