Define Usability testing and Usability

At its base the term usability can be broken down to mean, “able to be used.” The true definition
of the term is more complex as there is no set usability approach that can make a product or
service usable for everyone. Usability testing helps determine the parts of a product, be it
physical or digital, that need to be more usable or accessible. If your demographic of users does
not find your product to be usable you will inevitably lose consumer base.

Set Up

Explain what is needed from the tester and the proctor. Give examples of how to keep
tester comfortable and build rapport without creating bias. Define set up of the test whether it’s
interview, hands on, or otherwise and how the results will be recorded. Touch base on consent
from tester.

Define qualitative and quantitative

Define the two terms and explain the difference in the types of testing. Give examples as
to when each one might be necessary.

What are the kinds of question

Explain what questions fall under the qualitative/quantitative categories. Ask questions
that are open ended but that don’t create bias in the way they’re asked. Don’t pressure the
tester through questions to give a particular answer. Craft phrases so the testerb doesn’t feel
things aren’t working because of their own shortcomings.
