Prior to Lesson Review classroom expectations, students are sitting in their carpet
spots, sitting up straight and quietly and eyes on the teacher.

Introduction - _10_ Mins


Work period Students will be given some time to finish drawing and writing about
their ‘community landmark’ tourism page. Afterwards, students can
share their work with the class.
Attention Grabber Pre-reading: Students will be shown the cover of the ‘Me on the map’
picture book and asked to make predictions about what will happen in
the story. Students will be introduced to mapping and discovering the
world around them.
Assessment of “Do you know what a map is?” “What can maps be used for?”
Prior Knowledge “Where are we?”(In relation to the world)
Body - _18_ Mins
Learning Activity • “We are going to read a story about a little girl and how she maps
#1 her world. She will show us her home, her city, and where she is in
relation to the world.”
• Students will be read the story aloud and asked guiding questions
related to their homes and their community. ‘
Learning Activity Students will be asked to draw, colour and label a map of their
#2 bedroom.
First, the class will brainstorm ideas of what they have in their room
and the teacher will make a mind map with examples.
They will draw their maps on a blank page.

Teacher Notes: If students finish early they can turn the page over and draw a map of
