Task Description: Heavy Lifting
HAZARDS IDENTIFIED CONTROL MEASURES

1 Personal injury Follow risk assessment and lifting study,


barrier/secure lifting zone, wear correct PPE
2 Lifting accessory failure Use only certified lifting accessories with
current colour code, inspect items before use
3 Crane failure Only use certified and tested equipment
Test crane brake by small lift of load
3 Weight Know the weight of ALL items before lifting
Only use accessories with suitable SWL
4 Uncontrolled movement of load Ensure ALL joints are separated before lifting
Do Not use crane to separate joints
Use handlines to control the load on the hook
6 Falling Objects Ensure ALL parts of load are secure, remove
loose items, DO NOT lift over personnel
7 Stability Confirm load center of gravity prior to lift
Do not stack loads too high
Place loads on firm & level surface
8 Complex lifts (more than one crane) Suitable lifting study & method statement
Team briefing of all personnel prior to lift
