ABSTRACT

A study was carried out to improve the process of obtaining elastomers with defined
characteristics.

Synthetic rubber Nitrile was chosen as the base component of the formula, the other 9
components of the formulation were determined, of which Thiuram (TMTD), Phenolic Resin,
and Zinc Oxide (ZnO) are varying in the study.

Using the statistical software, the number of experiments and the quantity of each component
were determined for the tensile strength, hardness and elongation at break tests.

The mixtures were elaborated, vulcanized and the tests were carried out according to the ASTM
D2240 standards and ........, maintaining constant the temperature and pressure of the
environment.

The results were evaluated by measuring the statistical software using the Simplex Centroide
method. Concluding that the properties of elastomers are influenced by the percentages of the
three components of the formulations, with a 95% confidence level for Traction tests.

Using mathematical models (Arruda-Boyce), experimental results were compared with

theoretical results, observing that the latter obtained with Arruda-Boyce parameters: the 71.83
molecule network chain and the C1 material constant, within the range [0.5-1] (Mpa) showed
greater coherence.
