We recently completed a survey of 78th District residents to find out what they care about and the types of
legislation they would like to see me introduce in 2019. The results probably won’t surprise you. People zeroed
right in on the big issues facing our region, including homelessness, cost of housing, healthcare and climate
change. My marching orders for the next two years in the Assembly are pretty clear.
Here are a few details about the information and how it was collected:
• 598 people completed the survey.
• The survey was not a scientific poll.
• We gathered data by sharing the survey through our email list, Facebook and Twitter.
• We asked respondents to self-report their zip codes to determine how likely it is that the respondent lives in
the 78th District and still keep the survey short and easy to complete.
• More than 95% reported living in zip codes that are contained within the 78th District.
• We got replies from all over, including Los Angeles and various parts of San Diego County. It seems people
everywhere care about San Diego and the 78th Assembly District!
• “Take no prisoners.”
• “You’re my hero and you dress really well.”
• “Carl is still a better dresser.”
It’s extremely gratifying that almost 600 people care enough about the future of the San Diego region to
complete this survey. Thank you to everyone who did. I’ll continue to share information about legislation I’m
introducing and it’s progress.
In the meantime, have a wonderful holiday season and a Happy New Year!
Best wishes,
