RE: General application for available positions within your school district

To whom it may concern,

As an upcoming Bachelor of Education graduate I would like to inquire about positions

available within your school district and provide you with my information for your records.

My passion for Education has developed out of the positive effect that remarkable
teachers have had on my life. During my time at Irvine School and Eagle Butte High School I was
fortunate enough to have been positively impacted by the hard work and dedication of several
teachers. It is my belief that teachers are able to make a significant difference for their
students. This belief has been solidified throughout my practicum experience with the
University of Lethbridge.

I believe that a teacher should be passionate about what they are teaching. An
enthusiasm in the subject will lead to a greater chance that the students will also be interested
in the material. The best teachers will be able to connect abstract concepts to students lives
and thereby make content relevant. Students will learn most effectively when they are engaged
with what is being taught. The importance of the material should be clear for effective learning
to take place. As a Social Studies major, I personally find it to be the most interesting subject to
teach.

Another significant belief for me is the importance of building positive relationships with
students. When students understand that you value them as individuals they will be more
willing to learn. I think that there is great value in recognizing student interests. Where and who
we teach should greatly inform what and how we teach. Even smaller details can become
crucial to understanding the dynamics of the classroom. In building these relationships I believe
that respect is the most fundamental value to promote in the classroom. Having a safe
classroom where opinions can be shared without judgement can go a long way in building
relationships among students.

Upon viewing this resume and my portfolio, I hope to inform you on what kind of
educator I will be. Please contact me if you have any further questions.

Thanking you in advance for your time,

Brayden Gill

Extra-Curricular Activities and Volunteer Work

Practicum Extra-Curricular 2017- 2018
I have enjoyed helping with after school events such as the Sadie Hawkins dance
in my final practicum. This allowed for me to interact with students in a less structured
environment outside of the regular classroom. Starting the Chess Club at the school also
allowed me the opportunity to get to know students in other classes. My extra-
curricular involvement in earlier practicums consisted of helping run sports events and
tournaments that the school had hosted. This was to ensure that the event would run
smoothly for those involved.

Supporting Success Program 2016-2017

I have been with this program for three semesters working roughly two hours a
week. Supporting Success is a program that helps children improve their literacy skills.
Children (grades 1-5) can get the academic help they need from tutors for an hour and a
half. This consists of whatever needs their school teacher or parent had expressed to us.
Typically, they are ESL children who need help with their listening and speaking skills as
well as catching up to grade level on their reading, writing or math.

U of L Cross Country Club 2015-2018

My role in the Cross Country Club has been that of founding member and co-
president. I have been responsible for occasionally running practices, organizing
workouts, setting up events, and attending club council meetings. My participation is
roughly two hours a week for 7 months of the year. This club has been a rewarding way
to be active in the student community at the University of Lethbridge. Recently we were
able to paint a mural in the University Student Union Walkway representing the club.

Other
I have also volunteered when I was a member of the Medicine Hat 4-H
Lighthorse Club for four years. This had consisted of several community events from
Highway Cleanup to the Flashing Canines Dog Show. I also held the position of club
treasurer for several years. Being part of this club had helped me develop my horseback
riding and public speaking skills.
