Design
The fibre-optic unit is fitted on a plastic plate. The plate can be rotated in increments of 15°. The electrical connections are inside a plastic
housing. The electrical connection is made via safety sockets. The unit is mounted on the profile plate using the locking system with the blue
lever (mounting version "A").
Function
Optical proximity sensors consist of two principal modules, the transmitter and the receiver. In the case of fibre-optic units, both are located
in a single housing.
The transmitter of the fibre-optic unit emits pulsed red light, which lies in the visible part of the spectrum. The light is routed via the
transmitter fibre-optic cable with the sensing head to the sensing location. The light is routed back via the receiver fibre-optic cable to the
receiver, which is located in the same housing. Depending on the cable, the fibre-optic unit can be used as a through-beam sensor or a diffuse
sensor.
When used as a through-beam sensor:
The object to be detected may reflect any amount of light, but must only let through a minimal amount. In the case of transparent, light-
permeable objects, the emission level can be attenuated to a certain extent using a potentiometer.
The proximity sensor has PNP outputs, i.e. the signal line is connected to the positive potential when switched. The load is connected
between the proximity sensor signal output and ground. A yellow LED indicates the switching status.
