Using nature to clean up the environment

A new revolutionary green technology has been invented to treat

various kinds of waste. The US patented system utilizes the power of
nature to treat waste the way nature would, and that is with microbes.
Microbes are microscopic organisms that include bacteria, fungi and
algae. When an animal dies, with time, nature will completely
decompose the carcass until it is no longer present. The patented
system called BioCleaner uses the same principle to treat waste.
Chemicals that are harmful to the environment are either no longer
needed or are used in minimal quantities.

Depending on the waste, microbes are specifically chosen to treat that

certain waste. A microbial repository by the US technology company,
Advanced BioSystems in Louisiana has isolated over 11,000 microbial
species that are Biosafety level 1; it is one of the largest privately
owned repositories in the world. Biosafety level 1 is a classification
system by the US Center for Disease and Control and Prevention
(CDC); biosafety level 1 means that they are not known to cause
diseases to healthy humans. Any organic waste has a corresponding
natural microbe that will break it down. Organic waste BioCleaner can
treat include wastewater, landfills, petroleum waste, hazardous waste,
leachate, contaminated soil and water.

There are several features that set this technology apart from all other
alternatives. This waste treatment system has the lowest carbon
footprint in the industry. It consumes only fraction of the power
needed in other conventional treatment systems, making it a very
green technology. The low electricity use contributes to this, but also,
the process will not produce any methane (CH4), which is 21 times
more harmful to global warming compared to carbon dioxide (CO2). An
added benefit of this system is the elimination of offensive odors from
the treament plant. Operating expenses are drastically lowered and
therefore generate significant cost savings. In addition, no sludge is
produced in the treatment process. The specially isolated microbes
will digest all organic waste leaving no sludge waste behind. This
means that desludging services are no longer required. Furthermore,
offensive odors emitted from the treatment plants will be eliminated.
This is especially critical for hotels and malls, which are open to the
public.

One successful example is Pepsi Cola, which has newly retrofitted their
waste treatment plant (WTP) in Cagayan De Oro with the BioCleaner
system. The system will save millions of pesos in cost savings from
electricity consumption, chemical use and the such. Pepsi Cola has no
need to desludge at its plant and the effluent passes DENR standards.
Before the Biocleaner system was installed, Pepsi Cola was using a
total of 25HPs to treat its waste, however with the new system in place
only 16HP is being used and the capacity of the treatment has more
than doubled.

There has been a significant change in the wastewater. The offensive

odor is no longer present at the STP, increasing productivity in the
area. Biological oxygen demand (BOD) and total suspended solids
(TSS) test results have gone down dramatically. Meanwhile, dissolved
oxygen (DO) in the wastewater has increased greatly.

Other clients include Tagaytay Highlands and Oakwood. Cost savings

on electricity have been very large, typically saving at least 50% of the
treatment system. Oakwood, which is sensitive to offensive odors now
do not receive complaints because of the odor from the sewage
treatment plant.

The use of this technology is far reaching and new application methods
are still being discovered continuously. Cleaning up waste is vital for
the environment and with this technology we can clean it with the
power of nature.
