La préctica clasificatoria en la Academia El fuerte interés nutrido por los filésofos y alumnos de la Academia en Atenas, en relacién con los problemas de definicién y clasificacién de cosas, parece haber sido tan notorio que también personas ajenas a ese circulo lo percibieron. Asi, por ejemplo, leg6 hasta nosotros, afortunadamente, un fragmento del comico Epicrates (Ateneo 59 d- f. Sereno y juicioso empez6 a explicarles buenamente a qué género pertenece Ia calabaza, y cuando los dejé ‘todavia seguian haciendo clasificaciones.” ‘Una anécdota también ilustra cuan comin eran esas actividades. En su didlogo Politico (cf. Azcérate, 1946: 671) Platén comenté que: “Hubiera sido necesario comenzar por dividir a los animales que caminan en bipedos y cuadripedos; como la primera categoria s6lo comprende a los péjaros ademis del hombre # continuacién divide la especie de los bipedos en bipedos desnucos y bipedos con pluma; por ‘timo, hecha esta operacién, y puesto en claro el arte de educar 0 de conducir a los hombres, ‘coloca’al politico y al rey ala cabeza de este arte, confifndole las riendas del Estado, como legitimo poseedor de esta ciencia.”
