DETERMINE THE HAZARD LEVELS OF THE FOLLOWING


CIRCUMSTANCES, (SHOW ALL WORKINGS).

1. A refrigeration vessel of 1200mm internal diameter by 12.5m long


with a pressure of 1.2 MPa containing flammable non toxic
refrigerant, installed in a refinery?

Diameter = 1.2m
Radius = 0.6m
Volume = 14.137m3
Volume = 14137Litres
a. (PV) = 16964.6MPa.L or 1.696 x 104
b. = VHG (flammable) (Fs x 3) (note 4a iii)
= 5.1 x 104MPa.L
HAZARD LEVEL B

2. A 200mm steam line with a design pressure of 900 Kpa

NB = 200mm
900Kpa = 0.9 MPa

3. A LPG road tanker of internal diameter 2.5 metres and length 10


metres and a pressure rating of 1800 KPa
