ACKNOWLEDGMENT

We would like to give our thanks to our thesis professor Mr. Ryan Manuel

Guido for guiding and helping us achieve our goal towards this research and Mr.

Frank Kelvin Martinez for being our thesis adviser and inspired us to make

ASTRAL as what it is today. We could have not done ASTRAL as stylish and

functional as it is today without the continuous rain of ideas and design of these

professors. Also Mr. Patrick Chaze Obsuna for helping us publish and produce

ASTRAL before it was online. We would not have ASTRAL now if it wasn’t for him.

Our utmost appreciation to our parents Rosario Quinto, Robert Quinto,

and Ma. Cristina Isidro for giving us hope and support especially when our

hearts are giving up from all the problems financially as well as when ASTRAL

had its setbacks.

We are also very grateful to our friends John Vincent Tan, Julian Carl

Maverick Cortes, Patrick Christoffer Obsuna, and Joe Ervin Flores and the

rest of our classmates whom helped us in achieving ASTRAL’s user interface and

function. We also appreciate Chenel Dominguez, Ralph Christian Tiburdo,

Khrisna Santos, and Franchette Castillon and other members of the

Department of Earth and Space Science for participating and providing powerful

feedbacks that helped us shape and re-design ASTRAL. ASTRAL will not be

ASTRAL without these wonderful people.

A special mention to Diane Clarisse Gonzales, John Robert’s beloved

significant other whom gave all the love, support, and encouragement to strive on
iv

even when the situation is taking the wrong shoulder as well as Alayne Monique

Corpuz, Joseph’s inspiration and loving girlfriend that gave breathtaking love,

support and inspiration that kept him striving to pursue and finish the research.

They both gave the researchers a warm welcome of appreciation regarding their

work especially when the researchers gave an ample amount of determination to

finish ASTRAL for prototyping.

Lastly, to our Lord God in heaven that has always been watching and

giving guidance to us. He never failed to answer our prayers and heed our call for

guidance. We will forever be in His debt.

Abstract
The Department of Earth and Space Science (DESS) is experiencing

difficulty in promoting astronomy awareness to the Rizal Technological University

(RTU) and in lateral terms the whole Philippines. The researchers made a

department owned website that aims to propose and serve as a possible solution

to the problem, all in terms of ISO 9126 standard software quality model; first,

What method was used to build ASTRAL; second, how was ASTRAL developed;

third, how was how can ASTRAL’s functionality and efficiency help the department

share astronomical information to students and faculty members and the general

public; fourth; how can the administrators manage ASTRAL in terms of

Maintainability and Reliability; and lastly, how can ASTRAL show its user-

friendliness and adapt to any environment in terms of Usability and Portability.

The method used to build ASTRAL is Rapid Application Development(RAD)

which tackled on building it in a fast phased manner and making use of prototypes

then continually being tested by using end users.

The research instrument used is a questionnaire that is based on ISO 9126

the software quality model. Likert scale was used to acquire responses from

respondents and comparison to the arbitrary scale value for the result being (5)

Strongly Agree the highest and (4) Strongly Disagree the lowest. ASTRAL gained

the Agree result from viewers and administrators in terms of functionality, efficiency,

and portability and outstandingly gained Strongly Agree in terms of usability. But,
vi

administrators have near neutral thoughts in terms of ASTRALs reliability and

maintainability which future researchers may improve. ASTRAL is a user friendly

website for on and off users. ASTRAL followed the international standard for

creating website in terms of ISO 9126. Furthermore, after conducting the said

survey, ASTRAL passed for a good quality website in terms of ISO 9126.
