Atmosphere
# Unknown Using Colorimetric tubes
test for Acid Gases:
Atmosphere HCl , SO2, HBr, HF
If these are all negative
then go to Oxidizer Test
test for:
Ammonia
Amines >9 pH in Air <3
Hydrazine (pH paper) pH = ________
Purines Oxidizer
using Colorimetric tubes 4-8
or paper in Air
bleaches out (oxidizer paper)

+
test for:
Chlorinated Hydrocarbons Halogen test Using Colorimetric Tubes:
Halons, etc… possibly Use Colorimetric tubes only If gas is reddish in color
Freon, dry cleaning + Perchlorethylene or Trichlorethylene
test for:
solvent, Chloroform, etc.. NO2
tubes…
Bromine
If yellow-green in color
CO ________ppm test for: Chlorine
Use CGI now
H2S _______ppm
Oxygen deficient atmosphere
caused by: Enriched oxygen atmosphere
1. aerobic bacteria caused by:
2. displacing gas
3. chemical reaction (rust or
O2 1. an oxygen leak
2. decomposition of
oxidation of some sort)
Below 16% CGI may not < 20%
Level > 22%
peroxide
3. chemical reaction
work properly. Look for Meter reading ______% Find the source of oxygen
displacing gas…………….. Ventilate before entering !

~ 21%

Use PID 1. ~100% LEL or more =

to search for low levels of flammable atmosphere - inert
Volatile Organic Compounds or ventilate prior to entering
> 100 ppm = possible contaminant ~ 0% CGI >1% 2. ~ 60% LEL = flammable
above a PAC LOC pockets exist
% LEL
Meter reading:

____________
PID PID

________________ ppm ________________ ppm

If an odor is reported go to Odors Chart and test for specific gases using Colorimetric tubes. .
If no odor is reported test for low levels of CO2, CO, H2, unodorized CH4, Propane, etc…

Remember: All gases and vapors may have Multiple Hazards
