Can’t win it all 

 
Have  you  ever  had  such  a  high  expectation  that  you  can’t  think  of 
anything  else  but  in  the  end,  you  just  can’t  meet  it?  This  is  a  story  about 
my once in a lifetime Junior Varsity football tournament.  
 
The  reason  it’s  my  “once  in  a  lifetime” is that grade 10 is the only year 
on  the  Junior  Varsity  team.  The  day  started  off  like  any  other  day.  I  woke 
up  at  6.00  with  a  mindset  of  a  winner.  It  usually  takes  me  15 mins to school 
but  that  day  felt  way  longer.  To  be  honest,  I  underestimated  other  teams 
because  we’ve  already  won  every  single  one  of  them  in  the  league  we  just 
finished.  We  got  in  a  van  and  went  to  Concordian  international  school. 
There  were  two  groups  competing  before  going  to  the  elimination  round. 
We were the first match to kick off. The match started at 9.00 as I recall and 
went  on  for  30  minutes.  We  conceded  zero  goal  and  were at the top of the 
leaderboard.  The  same  went  for  the  next  two  matches.  We  remained 
undefeated  and  still  conceded  zero  goal.  As  the  first  place  of  the  group, 
we  went  on  head  to  head  with  Ekkamai  international  school,  our  rival.  We 
were  ahead  by  a  goal  since  the  first  five  minutes  until  the  last  five  minute. 
The  match  was  super  intense,  no  doubt.  We  went  to  overtime  but  no  one 
scored  so  the  only  thing  left  was  the  penalty.  With  all  the  pressure,  we 
missed  the shot and lost, unfortunately. The only place left to be taken was 
third  and  we,  for  sure,  were  not  going  to let that pass. I remember running 
till  my  legs  stopped  working.  We  did,  in  the  end,  came  third  but  nobody 
was  blaming  each  other.  In  fact,  we  cheered  and  supported  our 
teammates with all we got. 
 
Even  though  there  were  some  setbacks,  some  unlucky  moments, 
some  mistakes,  our  team  still  hold  on  to  each  other  and  I  think  that  was 
what  counts.  Getting  third  place  might  not  be  ideal  but  it  was  truly  a 
wonderful experience. ​17/20
