Course Description: The focus of Accelerated GSE Analytic Geometry B/Advanced Algebra is organized into 10 critical areas. The
need for extending the set of rational numbers arises and real and complex numbers are introduced so that all quadratic equations can
be solved. Quadratic expressions, equations, and functions are developed; comparing their characteristics and behavior to those of
linear and exponential relationships from Coordinate Algebra. Circles return with their quadratic algebraic representations on the
coordinate plane. The link between probability and data is explored through conditional probability. They apply methods from
probability and statistics to draw inferences and conclusions from data. Students expand their repertoire of functions to include
polynomial, rational, and radical functions. They expand their study of right triangle trigonometry to model periodic phenomena.
And, finally, students bring together all of their experience with functions and geometry to create models and solve contextual
problems. The Mathematical Practice Standards apply throughout each course and, together with the content standards, prescribe that
students experience mathematics as a coherent, useful, and logical subject that makes use of their ability to make sense of problem
situations.

GRADING SYSTEM: The DeKalb County School District believes that the most important assessment of student learning shall be
conducted by the teachers as they observe and evaluate students in the context of ongoing classroom instruction. A variety of approaches,
methodologies, and resources shall be used to deliver educational services and to maximize each student’s opportunity to succeed.
Teachers shall evaluate student progress, report grades that represent the student’s academic achievement, and communicate official
academic progress to students and parents in a timely manner through the electronic grading portal. See Board Policy IHA.
**GRADING CATEGORIES GRADE PROTOCOL
Assessment During Learning– 25% A 90 – 100
Guided, Independent, or Group Practice – 45% B 80 – 89
Summative Assessment or Assessment of Learning– 30% C 71 – 79
**GA Milestone (EOC) will be at the end of the semester and D 70
counts as 20% of the student’s overall grade** F Below 70
Standards: https://www.georgiastandards.org/Georgia-Standards/Pages/Math-9-12.aspx
EXPECTATIONS FOR SUCCESS
STUDENT PROGRESS Semester progress reports shall be issued four and a half, nine and thirteen and a half weeks into each
semester. The progress of students shall be evaluated frequently and plans shall be generated to
remediate deficiencies as they are discovered. Plans shall include appropriate interventions designed
to meet the needs of the students. See Board Policy IH.
ACADEMIC Students will not engage in an act of academic dishonesty including, but not limited to, cheating,
INTEGRITY providing false information, falsifying school records, forging signatures, or using an unauthorized
computer user ID or password. See the Code of Student Conduct - Student Rights and
Responsibilities and Character Development Handbook.
HOMEWORK Homework assignments should be meaningful and should be an application or adaptation of a
classroom experience. Homework is at all times an extension of the teaching/learning experience.
Daily homework will be graded based on effort and completion. There will also be unannounced
“Problem of the Days” where the student is allowed to complete using homework assignments.
This will be graded on accuracy and will be entered into the Guided/Group Practice Category.
MAKE-UP WORK It is the student’s responsibility to check edmodo.com for class notes and get any missing worksheets
DUE TO ABSENCES from an absence. It is also the student’s responsibility to come to tutorial to ask questions on missed
material after completing the above. If your excused absence is the day before a quiz/test, you will be
expected to take it with the class. If your excused absence is the day of a test/quiz you will take the
test in class the day you return. If your absence is unexcused, you will receive a zero for the
assignment or assessment.
LATE WORK Late work will not be accepted.
SCHOOL EXPECTATIONS FOR SUCCESS

CLASSROOM You are expected to bring all of your necessary materials every day. You will not be allowed to go
EXPECTATIONS to your locker to obtain materials. This should be done between classes.
BE PROMPT You should be in your seat before the bell rings
BE PREPARED Bring all required materials to class and be in class both physically and
mentally.
BE POLITE Respect yourself, your teacher, fellow classmates, and all belongings
BE POSITIVE Leave all negative attitudes and profanity outside of the classroom
PARTICIPATE Ask questions when you do not understand and answer questions when you
are able
*** In addition to these expectations all school policies will be enforced.
CELL PHONE POLICY Students should not have their cell phone out in class, unless otherwise directed. (This includes head
phones.)
First Offense: Taken until the end of class
Second Offense: Taken until the end of the day
Third Offense: Taken until the end of the day, phone call home

TARDY POLICY Being late to class is unacceptable. Students will sign in when they are tardy to class. After 3
tardies, the student will write a tardy paragraph. If this is not completed, the student will serve 30
minutes of detention in my room and a parent will be contacted. After 7 tardies, you will be written
up.
