If one thing is certain about couples today, it’s this—anything goes! Brides are
wearing white, ivory and even pink dresses. Cakes can be the tallest of
towers or as small as donuts (yes, donuts!). Roses, lilies, orchids and greenery
are being spotted in bouquets of every shape and size. Guest lists are both long
and short. Reception venues run the gamut from elaborate ballrooms to out-
door tents to the bride’s own backyard.
St. Louis bride Annie Cosby (Home, Shrine, Castle, page 154) fell in love

Emily Miller began her journey
in 2010 when she started her
makeup and hair company, Emily
Miller Makeup & Hair. She has
worked with celebrity clients
Karlie Kloss, Joe Biden, William
Shatner, ‘Glee’ Actress Erinn
Westbrook, Olympian Shawn
Johnson, Victoria’s Secret Devon
Windsor along with numerous
other sportscasters, TV person-
alities and corporate clients. In
2014, Emily was the first in the
area to develop a Professional
Makeup Artist Certification and
1 has trained close to 100 makeup
artists of which she calls upon
to help out when there is a large
group of clients to service. In
addition, she hand selects hair
stylists whom she believes repre-
sent her clean, classic style to help
out with larger groups as well.
Together, they take the worry and
anxiety out of a bride’s special

Cheers to 10 Years!
Since 2009, Off White has featured an annual event for hip and fun
couples. Off White - THE WEDDING SHOW was founded by Brea
McAnally, owner of Brea Photography and caretaker of The Luminary,
as she saw a need in St. Louis for a wedding show that was more per-
sonal, unique, and more in tune to the needs of slightly off-beat couples.
In 2012, Allissa Reimer, owner of Altar’d Events, joined the Off White
crew and eventually took over production following the 2015 event. Un-
like the big-box wedding shows you might be used to, Off White - THE
WEDDING SHOW focuses on unique and personal service. In October
of 2018, the Off White brand expanded to include THE COLLECTIVE
in addition to THE WEDDING SHOW, offering another platform to
feature amazing, independent vendors who value personal relationships,
authentic celebrations and love in all forms. The10th Anniversary event
will be hosted at Wild Carrot on Sunday, March 3 from 1-4pm. Tickets

Bride + Ale
PHOTOGRAPHY BY JONATHAN POLLACK WEDDINGS
D
id you know that the Old English word for “bridal” is brydealo, a
combination of bryd (bride), and ealo (ale)? Bride + ale = bridal. This
is proof that beer is the perfect complement to any wedding celebra-
tion. Old Bakery Beer Company (OBBC) sits in downtown Alton, IL, right across
the Mississippi River from St. Louis in the beautiful old Colonial Bakery building.
OBBC’s event space draws in couples who want an industrial venue with a lot of
character and seek to enhance rather than bury the space’s existing aesthetic. That
is exactly what stylist (and OBBC regular) Bailey Shaw did when planning for this
styled wedding photoshoot involving sets for both a ceremony and a reception with
a lounge area. The color palette pulled the light yellows and blues from the event
space’s brick walls and a beautiful dark pink inspired by OBBC’s seasonal beer,
Hibiscus Tart. Shaw fell in love with the brick walls at the venue, and they were
able to transfer that aspect into the invitation design.

BRIDAL GOWNS
Meghan Markle wore a simple, elegant gown with a wide boat neckline, long sleeves, and a
sweeping train designed by Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy. While brides are not requesting
a reproduction of the royal wedding gown, they are seeking that classic feel.
“When we ask brides to describe how they want to look and feel on their wedding day,

more so than a year ago the answer is timeless and elegant. That usually translates into
from Town & Country a gown that is classic and doesn’t have a lot of detail or extravagance to it,” says Debbie

E VERYONE KNOWS THAT THE CARIBBEAN is a romantic place for a vacation. But Nassau
is being touted as this year’s hottest destination for honeymoons, and it’s easy to see
why. Sitting on the 21-mile-long island of New Providence, the city of Nassau is the vibrant
hub of the Bahamas. With sweeping white-sand shores, crystal-clear waters, flavorful island

adventures like boating, parasailing, and jet skiing.
THE OBVIOUS ATTRACTIONS
Boasting more than 300 days of sunshine, Nassau’s weather is every beach-lover’s
dream. Even in the rainy season (May – June), there are breaks in the clouds when
the sun peeks out. And with the temps hovering around 80 degrees, there is an
abundance of warmth, sunshine and beach bliss all year round.
Spend your day enjoying the glistening clear blue waters with aquatic adven-
Parasailing over the Carribean Sea tures like boating, parasailing, and jet skiing. Or dive beneath the surface and ex-
plore the underwater world of marine life, coral reefs and fascinating shipwrecks
that make Nassau one of the world’s leading destinations for snorkeling and scuba diving.
Then there is the reason everyone goes to the Bahamas – those sugary white-sand beaches. Sit back, relax and soak
up the sun as you and your new spouse enjoy those first few days of wedded bliss.
In St. Lucia, you and your beloved can climb the Piton mountains, zipline
over the canopy of a rainforest, or explore natural waterfalls.
LUXURY ACCOMMODATIONS
When visiting Nassau, Mike Schellhase of Travel Haus of St. Louis
recommends staying at the Sandals Royal Bahamian. A sophisticated
blend of European elegance and exotic island escapades, honeymoon-
ers will find everything they need for romance in this glamorous all-
inclusive resort. Step right onto the beach from a walk-out suite at one
of the resort’s two grand towers, or find your private paradise with the
peace and tranquility of the quaint cottages at the Royal Village.
Take a dip in one of the resort’s sky-sized colonnaded pools that

Lane Spa, then dine out at one of the ten specialty restaurants, including
everything from classic French cuisine to the spicy Caribbean flavors that the Bahamas are famous for.
And if that isn’t enough, the resort also includes its own offshore private island. Just minutes away from the resort,
you can either take a private ferry or paddle over to the island yourself on a kayak. Enjoy its two secluded beaches,
swim-up bars, whirlpools and the region’s best seafood house. When you need a break from the sun, hide away inside a
private cabana and indulge in your own slice of island paradise.

Harbour Island’s famous pink sand beaches get their color from thousands
of tiny pieces of coral, shells and calcium carbonate.
ISLAND HOPPING
In total, the Bahamas includes about 700 islands, 30 of which
are inhabited. It would be impossible to explore them all in the
span of one honeymoon, but there are a couple of spots that are
worth checking out. And Nassau is the perfect launching point for
discovering the islands in all their splendor.
Harbour Island is famous for the natural beauty of its pink sand
beaches. According to research, the pink tones are made from thou-
sands of tiny pieces of coral, shells and calcium carbonate. Or you can
Dean’s Blue Hole learn more about the Bahamas’ fascinating history with visits to sites
like the Adderley’s Plantation and Long Island Museum. Don’t leave
Long Island without seeing the gorgeous azure waters of Dean’s Blue Hole, the second deepest bay in the world.
You definitely don’t want to miss the Exumas, surrounded by gorgeous aquamarine water and the vibes of a relaxed,
casual Caribbean feel. Great Exuma is the largest island, but even its capital, George Town, doesn’t have a traffic light.
From George Town, you can reach the island of Big Major Cay (or “Pig Beach”) and partake in the unique experience of
taking a dip with the famous swimming pigs.
You don’t have to limit your honeymoon to sun, surf and sand. Nassau's
food, entertainment and culture are absolutely worth exploring.

Spend the morning checking out the downtown area, shopping in the Nassau Straw Market. Or
take a stroll down the cobblestones of West Hill Street – part of Graycliff Historical Village –
where you'll feel like you're stepping back in time.
Nassau is home to the land of cacao beans, making it the perfect place to take your love
of chocolate to the next level. Visit the Graycliff Chocolatier Factory and learn how to mix and
match ingredients like lime and mango with your chocolate. Bahamian food is an interesting
combination of southern American staples and spicy Caribbean seafood cuisine. Enjoy a deli-
cious conch dish, baked crab or peas and rice by candlelight for a romantic evening out before
hitting the town. The city has everything from live music and intimate bars to nightclubs, casinos
and trendy cocktails.
From fun nights out, relaxing days on the beach and exciting new adventures together, it’s
no surprise that Nassau is a favorite spot for honeymooners. What could be more romantic than
escaping to paradise?

he Main Street Abbey inspired this shoot with its pristine white walls and arch-
ways above the original stained glass windows. “Coupled with Megan Markle
and Prince Harry’s wedding this spring and the abundance of TV series portray-
ing the history of royalty, we knew we had to bring our own royal wedding to life in this
rehabbed church. The color palette was an easy one, as we wanted to include fresh fruits,
desserts and the charcuterie spread as table decoration just like in early modern European
feasting tables.” Gold vessels of overflowing greenery and white peonies danced along the
walls and table accented by citrus and handpainted blue place settings (also mimicked in the
gorgeous cake)! And, what royal wedding is complete without a crown and sparkler party?

VERY HOSTESS wants dessert to be
her dinner’s crowning glory. Her guests
should say, “Wow” when they see it, be
eager to taste it and should know immediately
that it was chosen and prepared to be the perfect
culmination of a special event. If that event is a
wedding, and the dessert is the wedding cake, it
represents an age-old tradition, but one that has
definitely evolved with the times.
Once upon a time, the cake was expected to
be white, the frosting whiter, and the adornments
limited to the baker’s ability to manipulate spun
sugar and buttercream. Today, cakes are con-
structed with tiers and columns atop pedestals.
The cake can be any flavor or multi-flavored, and
the decor can include a number of things like a
miniature bride and groom, sugar or fresh flowers
and even a replica of the family pet. The taste,
texture, color and architecture of contemporary
wedding cakes are bounded only by the limits of
one’s imagination.
As a style element, cake design can be almost
free form, but the significance of the wedding cake
takes center stage in the traditional cake-cutting
ceremony, the first task the newly-married couple
perform jointly as hubby and wife. After the
cake has been cute, the ride and groom feed one
another from the first slice.
The couple design a wedding that reflects their

PHOTOGRAPHY BY PINXIT PHOTO & CINEMA
With an “Elegant Winter Romance” in mind as the theme, the goal of this styled shoot was to showcase
the beautiful details of a winter wedding in St. Louis. The luxurious Barnett on Washington served
as the perfect setting, as its regal interior provided an ample amount of backdrops for the couple to
capture unforgettable memories of their special day. The rich color scheme of navy, maroon, and gold
coupled with Belli Fiori’s sophisticated floral designs and Mia Grace Bridal’s romantic bridal selections
helped bring this shoot to life.

The moon and the stars have always been so romanticized and have been a constant
in love. Altar'd Events tried to capture the whimsy and playfulness while keeping it
elegant and accessible. After providing the creative team with inspiration, seeing how
they interpreted it was so much fun and so telling of their individual styles. When it
came together, everything blended so well and created such a gorgeous final product.

FALL
SPRING
A Wedding For
WINTER, SPRING, SUMMER OR FALL….it can be lovely to get married in them all. But each season does
offer some of its own unique possibilities and maybe a few limitations. Here, four St. Louis area respected
and in-demand wedding planners share some things to consider when choosing your wedding date.
WINTER Though it’s the least busy season for weddings, a winter wedding offers several perks. In
fact, being a less popular time is in itself an advantage. Jodell Larkin, owner of Starry Night Events
said, “A winter wedding can set yours apart from all the weddings you went to in June or in the fall.
You probably aren’t going to back-to-back wedding during the winter.”

7 Apps to Plan
Your Big Day
3 Joy
Joy is a one-stop shop for organizing
all those tedious wedding details. It has
built-in templates for RSVPs, schedules,
hotels and more. But its hottest feature is
allowing you to collect and share all of the
photos that your guests take on the big
day. It works like a private social media
page, enabling anyone who uses the app to
share images.
4 Appy Couple
Wedding planning involves a lot of
communication with your guests. Appy
Couple helps to manage things like your
guest list, invitations and venue directions
as well as share photos and so much more.
Choose a gorgeous design that looks like
something out of a trendy Etsy shop, then
input all the details into the app. Guests can
simply login to get the info they need, and
you don’t have to deal with a million texts
and phone calls.
5 Table Plan
Seating arrangements at the reception
can be a pain when you’re trying to keep all
your guests happy. Table Plan makes things
easier by enabling you to add guests then
move them around on screen. By setting a
few specific restrictions, the app can even
automatically plan the table settings for you.
6 Postable
Tracking down mailing addresses for
invitations can be a nightmare. Postable
makes it easy for you to pop in your guests’
email addresses and drop them a quick
email with a simple hassle-free address
request form.
7 Tripit
The wedding is over, and it’s time for
the honeymoon. Don’t get stuck in a wild
email (or worse, paper) scramble on the
way to the airport. Tripit collects all your
travel information in one place, giving you
easy access to your itinerary, flight and
hotel information in an easy-to-read format
right at your fingertips. ♥

could be physical intimacy, affection, roman-

DeVere-Rodgers cited a study that showed
the different needs of men and women. “The
top two things men needed from their wives
were physical intimacy and recreational com-
panionship, while the women’s top two needs
from their husbands were affection and inti-
mate conversation.”
4. MONEY
Money is definitely not a sexy topic, but one
that must be discussed before sharing your life
with someone. Some basic financial questions to
talk about: How are we going to budget? Who
is going to pay for what? How much should we
save? How do we view debt?
Koppe suggests that in addition to a joint
account, each person have their own account
with an agreed-upon amount or percentage that
they can spend any way they want without ask-
ing permission of the other. “Money is power
and one person should not have all the control
and say-so,” Koppe said.
5. CHILDREN
Perhaps nothing changes the dynamic of a
marriage more than having children. Couples
should talk about whether they want children,
how many, and when they would like to have
them. Other issues that should be brought to
the table are what you envision your parenting
style to be and the division of responsibilities
regarding childcare.
6. RELIGION
Religion may or may not be a factor for a
couple, but if it is, couples should discuss what
their religious lives will look like, said Koppe.
“A couple should talk about how they are going
to raise their kids and celebrate the holidays, espe-
cially if they are of different faiths,” said Koppe.
She said other questions to ask themselves are if
they plan to attend services every week, contribute
financially to their religious community and ethi-
cal issues regarding the teachings of their faith.

One thing Frank stresses to couples is not to
sacrifice taste for beauty.
“Couples want a wedding cake that tastes as
amazing as it looks. Often guests will remember a
cake that tastes great but may not remember the
presentation. We try to achieve both,” says Frank.
FLOWERS
Markle’s wedding bouquet by florist Philippa
Craddock featured flowers that were signifi-
cant to both her and Prince Harry, such as the
forget-me-nots that were a favorite of Harry’s
late mother, Princess Diana. Many of the flow-
ers in Markle’s bouquet came from the couple’s
garden at Kensington Palace.
David Bovier, owner of Ken Miesner’s
Flower Shoppe, says he has seen many brides
choosing the smaller, loose bouquet similar
to Markle’s.
“Brides are choosing tailored bouquets with
a loose but not messy look. Bohemian chic is
gone. Brides are looking for a modern take on
the classic bouquet,” says Bovier.
While brides may not have flowers with
the strong sentimentality of the forget-me-
nots in Markle’s bouquet, many are choosing
to incorporate herbs, which have traditional
wedding symbolism. Herbs such as lavender
(devotion), rosemary (remembrance), sage
(long life), and thyme (courage), may be used
in the bouquets.
There is one trend from the royal wed-
ding that Bovier has noticed with his brides.
“I’ve seen a lot more emphasis on beautiful,
lush greenery in the ceremony space,” he says.
“Archways around entrance doors and lots of
greenery inside are popular.”
At the royal wedding, the entrance of St.
George’s Chapel was adorned with an arch of
greenery and white flowers. The interior of the cha-
pel also featured magnificent foliage that included a
base of greenery such as astilbe and asparagus fern

well to summer weddings: “Floating lace on

Lots of hours of light means lots of time for
