SYNOPSIS OF INTERNSHIP

The sole purpose of an internship is to enable one to gain insight into the professional work
setting of the respective company. It is a crucial training period that enables one to gain
experience, understand how professionals work and carry out the duties of an employee.

Being interested in the Production Industry I did my internship at Momento Studios,

Alexandria, Egypt. – One of Egypt’s leading Video Production company for weddings and
events. During the course of this internship I was a part of events such as Weddings, Baby
Showers, Graduation Shoots etc and was assigned the duty of a videographer. Each of these
duties assigned to me helped me learn something new, enabled me to understand how a Video
Production Company works and taught me how professionals work in a professional work
setting. This internship gave me the opportunity to work in the industry and made me an
important part of the MOMENTO FAMILY. It has helped me grow into confident individual and
has taken me a step closer to the career I would like to pursue.

Also I was a part of another company called Bodz Network, where I learnt more about video
production like marketing for various brands and editing the shots and making an entire
advertisement.

This internship gave me an opportunity to work in the media production industry and also how
the company works in Egypt. It helped me a lot to grow as an individual and made me closer to
the career I want to pursue later in life.

INTRODUCTION

The report chronicles for four months of internship period which I, Simran Arora, student

The report highlights growth and opportunities that were open to me during the four
month internship period. It also highlights the difficulties and challenges I faced during
the period and how I managed to overcome my fears and adjust to a completely
different culture and work in Egypt.

This report is an overview of my observation during these four months not only at work
but also in Egypt while I experience a totally different traditions and way of living than
from India.

The reports also includes my work samples and internship weekly log reports containing
the work I did in the company each day.

15
OBJECTIVE

The foremost objective of this internship was to gain experience in another country as an
employee. The idea was to get insight of the work system of the company in Egypt, learn
from the professionals and understand and fulfil the duties/responsibilities assigned to
me, as an employee. This internship helped me to enhance my skill in various things like,
videography, video editing, photography, photo editing, etc. focusing primarily on media
production. It helped me to understand how a media production company works on a
large scale. It helped me how to shoot advertisements, wedding ceremonies and how to
work with a client and make him satisfied with the work. It also helped to edit different
kinds of videos like Instagram, Facebook stories, trailers, long movies. It strengthened my
professional skills, interpersonal skills and also helped me grow as a person and work and
live independently.

16
CHAPTER ONE: ABOUT THE COMPANY

17
MOMENTO STUDIOS

In 2006 Mr. Ahmed Nafea and his wife used to work in one the smallest studios in
Alexandria. After working there for four years they decided to open their own company
in 2010 named as Momento studio. They managed to get lot of clients by matching the
expectations of the clients. And gradually this company became the most renowned
company for wedding photography and videography.
They started their company with two photographers and one videographer but today
they have ten photographers and twelve videographers working in the company. Today
they have six video and photo editors with two other employees who handle the drone,
for trolley they have 15 employees and to handle professional video cameras they have
five more employees. There are three brothers who are the partners in this business and
today it is one of the most famous wedding company in Egypt.
There are more than 50 workers in the company to assist the on ground photographers
and videographers. And there are 10 consistent employees who are working in the office
to manage the on ground work reports. And there are 3 receptionist who interact with
the clients to fix the meetings and appointments.

BODZ NETWORK

It is a freelance company for making videos by promoting brands through advertising and
marketing. The owner of the company is Abdel Rahman Salma also known as Bodz got
his motivation when he was 18 years old and used to make videos for college projects.
One day hee decided to open his own company in 2010 and named it CHP and helped
people by promoting their company and helped them in making money.
He started as an influencer but gained much experience with time but he got so much
work that he couldn’t take the pressure and shut down the company. In 2016 again he
reopened his company and named it as BODZ NETWORK which got really famous. As a
freelancer he got really popular among people and through his great amount of work
and completing his work on time marvelously . And in 2018 as it was getting hard him to
handle everything alone so he came into a partnership with a very famous photographer
named as Ameer Dakrory. Now they run their company together gracefully.

18
MAIN ACTIVITIES OF THE COMPANY

19
MOMENTO STUDIOS

This is a private company which mainly works with family events, school events and
college events. Main activities of the company is to make videos for weddings like pre-
wedding shoots and post wedding shoots. This is a leading company in Egypt has tie-ups
with different five and seven stars hotel for organizing the full event and managing the
pre and post production of the company.

They have all the equipment for videography, photography, sound and light systems.
They have setup personal offices in each of the big hotels of Egypt and manage to work
great in all the circumstances.

Filming – for filming they have canon and Sony video cameras to shoot a steady video
clip movement and its carried by two people and the trolley for shoots which is handled
by the five people in the company there are ten people to manage the backstage work
for checking sound and light and they have LCDs to check the clips live at the backstage
and one person is always taking care of the big screen and guide all the other
videographers where to locate their camera and movement. And there are ten boys to
manage and getting stuff from the studio to locations.

Photography- for this company have much talented photographers to take different
kinds of shots which includes graphic shots, light effect shots, long shots, wide shots and
zoomed shots. These are around ten in number and assigned for various kinds of events
like some for pre- wedding shoots, graduation projects, apturing school events and some
for post wedding shoots. Photographers are the basic unit of Momento which can work
as videographers when needed.

Editors- These are the integral part of the company. They hold the best place to compile
all the Hard work done by the people in the particular event. They manage to put up all
the work making it a small summarize video beautifully by adding a sound track but this
is the most important work to notice. They work from day to night to make it memorable
and take no credits at all. In the office there are around six editors for managing different
occasions and in Momento they have girl editors too for editing some very important
functions in which sometimes people say not to show their videos to men or not
considered any men to film their event. So for that we have some specified number of
editors for different occasions.

20
Sound and light- for sound people are always there from hours before to check sound
and keeps doing sound check and same for the lights they keep checking it to get it
perfect. As sound and light are also very important for the event as people in the party.

21
BODZ NETWORK

This is a freelance company works in marketing and promoting by making advertising

videos for different company. This company works as an influencer to promote others
and making profits as whole. He makes videos by using high resolution cameras and
bring the new ideas every time for the same.
He manage to work alone so hard and make it the most popular company in Alexandria,
Egypt.

He makes different videos for different clients. Like he has bloggers, ad agencies, college
students, fashion brands, perfume brands, apparels dealers, and more.
He deals with the clients according to their choices and sometimes clients are so clingy
that they don’t let us decide anything by ourselves. They are precise to their choices and
stick on to what they want it doesn’t depend on what we like. As we have a write to only
tell them and gave them the direction but they by themselves decide what they really
want.

Whether we like it or not we have to accept their choices and work according to their
choice.

He works with one of the photographers who is his partner now and they both work
helping each other with ideas and support.
The best part of his work is how he turns things upside down and make them worth
something. It is really interesting to work at different places, going on locations and
getting paid for single shoots, he works as a freelancer so he get paid as for a day and it
depends on how much work is he doing. As owning a company is big tough job for a
person because then he has to manage everything and still looks fresh and give the work
to client on time to make his impression. Which he does greatly.
He knows much techniques to play with the simple clip and make it much efficient by just
doing some editing. It shows his fine quality of work.

CHAPTER TWO: WORK PROFILE

24
ABOUT MY WORK

I was a part of company which was run by a person called ‘Bodz’ here in Egypt. Bodz did
marketing for the companies. He made videos and short movies about the brand and
also did social media stories.

He was a freelancer basically and didn’t have any company. He had worked with many
companies and brand before and was quite famous in Egypt. When I first arrived in Egypt
I was told that I have a company here and it’s good. But I was very shocked when I came
to know that it’s just one person I’ll be working with. Anyway I started working with him
and he had many projects. I worked with him in making pre production reports for all the
companies and following up from them.

For example, there was a Dubai based company who wanted to shoot something
different in Egypt so we researched all about Egypt and chose some nice topics and made
a presentation on that and sent it to the company and kept following up from the
company.

After this project I also worked with another coffee shop and did pre production report
for that. Likewise in the first two weeks I only made pre production reports and came up
with ideas to do the advertisements for the brands. I worked with coffee shops, Egypt
tourism, Health Centres, Chocolate shops, restaurants, etc.
At times the work wasn’t a lot so Bodz asked me to start working on the company. I was
supposed to make the website for the company, collect the content and decide which
one goes on the site. I was also supposed to see what all things we need to fix the office
and come up with the ideas of promotion of the company. I came up with three four
ideas and we decided the budget and location and planned the shoots.
While I was working on all this Bodz decided to do a partnership with a photographer
and start his company with him. As I am not from Egypt, I don’t know the language here.
So for a few days while we were working on starting the company I wasn’t a part of any
work because I couldn’t communicate with the people here and not many people knew
English. It had been ten days without any work when my AIESEC manager decided to get
me another job. After four weeks of my arrival in Egypt I started working with another
company called ‘Momento Studios.’

Momento Studios is one of the leading companies in Egypt in Wedding Videography and
Photography. It had many photographers and videographers working under them. All of
them had different jobs at different locations. Some of them shot photos, some videos
from DSLR, some videos from Sony Cameras, some from drone and some from trolley.
Momento Studios had a huge team of employees.

25
My duty in Momento Studios was to make video summaries and give it to my boss. We
had a WhatsApp group and whenever there was work we were informed a night before.
My first work was to shoot a wedding with professional videographer at Four Seasons.
We started with shooting the dress, shoes, jewellery, accessories, etc. of the bride and of
the groom. After that we shot the makeup and hair do of the bride. While the bride and
groom got ready we shot the videos of the hall they had the wedding in. After that we
shoot the bride and groom together before the wedding party and hen the wedding
party. We take shots of how the bride comes in to the party, how the groom comes in,
their rituals, the dance, people eating, having fun, etc. The wedding party takes around
12 hours of shoot. My first day I just worked for eight hours. In Egypt taking photos or
videos is not something a girl works with. So while I worked there were many people
who asked where I am from and why am I in Egypt. Also many of my employees didn’t
know English well so communication was a huge problem but slowly and gradually I got
used to it.

Like this wedding party, I had many wedding parties to shoot. I also shot baby showers
and also acknowledged how different and great Egypt is. Also while I worked the
employees with me helped me a lot and taught me how to use Canon Mark III. They
taught me how to get the perfect colour in the camera, how to adjust white balance, ISO,
Aperture, Shutter speed. They also taught me how to shoot a stabilised video, how to
take control of the camera and shoot different moments in different ways. They helped
me open my brain to different ideas and projects. I got a lot of exposure here which will
benefit me in future in working with any company as I will be able to use professional
cameras and work in a good working environment. I know now how to work with drone
and which kind of shots to take at a particular event and how to edit it professionally.

With Momento Studios, I worked with wedding parties, pre wedding shoots, post
wedding shoots, baby showers, graduation shoots, pre graduation shoots, shoots in
school, etc. Momento really helped me to work like a professional. Sometimes, there
were issues like no camera, card or battery but we still managed to shoot. Sometimes the
client didn’t like what we did and we had to change some things.

While I was working in Momento, Bodz was busy in working on his company and he
didn’t need me. So after one month when he settled everything in his company I joined
his company again and we started working on projects and started doing the editings.
We did videos for many companies like, Pepsi, Egyptian Restaurants, Coffee Shops,
Health Centres and edited their videos too. With Bodz I learnt how to use final cut pro
and he taught me many techniques to edit different kind of videos and how to use the
right sound for the video. He taught me how to make a video great out of all trash clips
with easy solutions.

26
The problem I faced with Bodz was he always always late to work. He started working
late in the evening and worked till the morning. He also smoked a lot which suffocated
me and made me sick all the time. Also with Bodz language was a problem. I couldn’t talk
to the clients properly or understand them but the good thing was they all cooperated
and helped me.

Both with Momento Studios and Bodz, it was a small family helping each other to work
hard and make ourselves better.

27
KEY ISSUES FACED AND HOW I ADDRESSED THEM

People in Egypt started work at 1pm and worked for very little hours. With Bodz the
working hours was really less until we started working on the editings. With Momento
Studios also if it was told that the shoot starts at 2pm, the team used to come by 4 or
5pm. I was always on time and always waited for the ten to come. Everywhere in Egypt
people are very late. At first I didn’t like this but later I understood and coped up with
them. With Bodz the working environment was really bad. He used to work from 5-6pm
and he didn’t like working in a lot of light. The office lights were dim and he kept smoking
and working there. For me it was very difficult there because it made me feel sleepy.
What I expected was an office with good lighting where I could work in peace but it was
the other way round. Anyway there was nothing could do about it so I worked there as
he told me. If there was a lot of problem then I took my work home, finish it there and
get it back the other day.
With Momento I never faced any issue because it was really professional. At some points
there was communication gaps but we managed that also with the help of google
translate.

28
CONCLUSION

For a person like me who has never travelled alone before, it was an amazing experience.
Both the companies cooperated with me so much because I didn't know the language, I
didn’t know a lot about their culture but they helped us so much. I got a lot of exposure
here. I learnt how to work in a professional company with professional equipments. The
experience I got here is an add on as the workplace was unique and very different from
India. With this today, I have a lot of stories to talk about the working environment,
culture, cuisine and lifestyle. Initially I did face a lot of challenges as the thought process
and the way of dealing of people here varies, but later with proper communication and
exchange of thoughts it got better. Putting up my goals and implementing them was the
major challenge. In this span of four months I have learned a lot of new things which has
got in a lot of better skills in me which would help me in my near future.

Do’s and Don’ts for Juniors

First of all when you take any internship from aiesec make sure to take all the details
from them, for example, name of the company, work profile, timings, work environment
and culture. When you start working do not lie about anything you don’t know about. If
you don’t know any software tell your boss without any fear. Be yourself and be
confident. The most important thing is before traveling overseas just make sure you
know what you are going to do in another country and you get all the details correct.
