About RSTW 2018
To highlight the science and technology advocacy in the countryside, the Department of
Science and Technology (DOST VI) gears up for the conduct of the 2018 Regional Science and
Technology Week (RSTW) which commences on August 29-31, 2018 at Robinsons Place
Roxas Capiz.
Bannered with the theme, “Science for the People”, the RSTW is institutionalized to provide a
holistic avenue to experience how S&T works in creating huge impacts to people’s lives. This
also marks the strong commitment of the science community in pursuing collective expertise
and innovations pertinent to the development endeavors of the government.
DOST VI Regional Director Rowen Gelonga expressed that several activities are lined up to
showcase DOST’s innovative programs and services. Among of which are the S&T Exhibits
featuring new technologies on disaster resilience, support to industry and MSMEs, agriculture
and fisheries.
DOST-assisted products under the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP)
will also be highlighted through the Tek-Tienda MSME Product Fair.
The regional celebration is anchored with the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW),
founded in 1982 through Proclamation No. 2214.
Objectives:
S&T EXHIBITS
These showcase the S&T transformations, trends, developments, breakthroughs,
products, and services from DOST agencies, other government offices, academe and
the private sector in the form of information boards to be displayed at the venue.
Likewise, the exhibit will feature DOST flagship program – SETUP. It will be a “total
learning experience” for the viewer since there will be audio-visual presentations,
technology clinic and interactive activities in addition to infographics and exhibit
materials assuring viewers, visitors (mostly MSMEs) an extraordinary experience and
with an information value that could inspire them to adopt S&T innovations as a way of
improving the lives of people, business and communities.
