Objectives:
To explain the importance of mechanics in the context of engineering and conservation
equations.
To introduce the techniques for analyzing the forces in the bodies.
To explain the significance of centroid, centre of gravity and moment of inertia.
To apply the different principles to study the motion of a body, and concept of relative velocity
and acceleration.
UNIT I FUNDAMENTALS
Mechanics and its relevance, concepts of forces, laws of mechanics - parallelogram law, 9
triangular Law of forces, Lami’s theorem, law of polygon, concept of free-body diagram,
centroids, center of gravity, area moment of inertia, mass moment of inertia – Parallel and
perpendicular axis theorem.

UNIT II STATICS 9
Principles of statics, types of forces, concurrent and non-concurrent forces, composition of
forces, forces in a plane and space–Principle of transmissibility, Vectorial representation of
forces.

UNIT III KINEMATICS 9


Fundamentals of rectilinear and curvilinear motion, application of general equations,
concept of relative velocity, analytical techniques.

UNIT IV DYNAMICS 9
Displacement, Velocity and acceleration, their relationship relative motion, curvilinear
motion – Newton’s law – Work Energy Equation of particles – Impulse and Momentum –
Impact of elastic bodies.

UNIT V FRICTION 9
Laws of friction, static friction, rolling friction, application of laws of friction, ladder
friction, wedge friction, body on inclined planes.

masonry-CC and Rcc-flooring,plastering etc-Foundation-types-applicable-Levelling-types,-
chain survey-compass survey-levelling-tachemetric-conturing-structures-types-load bearing-
multishreyed-special structures-(Water tank,Bridges,Subways etc)
