interior architectural projects as case studies; design
as a synthesis of human perception, user`s
background of behavior, sociological makeup,
design tools, and systematic predictions and analysis.
Study the followings in detail: standard lines of
furniture and accessories; methods of selection;
theory and application in designing components; and
architectural graphics.

Course name/Code Long-Span & Special Structures
ARC5305
Course status Elective

Year/Semester Year V Semester I

Pre-requisites None

Credits 3

Course Description Introduction of structural systems for long spans and

special structures. The structural behavior will be
discussed and the required strength and stiffness will
be evaluated. Individual projects will be assigned to
students to be presented at the end of the course.

Course name/Code Conservation & Utilization in Historical Environment

ARC5307
Course status Elective

Year/Semester Year V Semester I

Pre-requisites None

Credits 3

Course Description This subject has a purpose in understanding practical

problems by both reading various documents related
to the preservation of historical cities, streets, and
buildings and analyzing their real application cases.

Year/Semester Year V Semester I

Pre-requisites Design Computing – I

ARC4312

Credits 3

Course Description This course investigates and applies emerging

computational theories and technologies through the
design and fabrication of a full-scale building
component and/or assembly. This investigation
includes various static, parametric, and scripted
modeling paradigms, computational-based structural
and sustainability analysis, and digital fabrication
technologies. Students work in pairs to design,
analyze, and fabricate a full-scale constructed piece.

Course name/Code Materiality in Architecture

ARC5311
Course status Elective

Year/Semester Year V Semester I

Pre-requisites None

Credits 3

Course Description This course examines the topic of material culture in

contemporary architecture, and explores the
different approaches, ideas and philosophies
associated with aspects of materiality in architecture
through the investigation and discussion of case study
projects by contemporary architects. Students are
introduced to a variety of approaches to the topic
since the dawn of the Modern Movement, and
explore how different contemporary architects
approach the idea of materiality in their work,
through their words, thoughts and built work. Thematic
topics related to materiality are also presented and
discussed, including materiality and landscape,
materiality and technology, and materiality and
memory. The class format is a lecture presentation by
the professor with student discussion.

Credits 3

Course Description Explores buildings, works of art, and artifacts of the

twentieth century that have shaped today's
understanding and approach to architecture.
Emphasizes exemplary works, as understood from the
practitioner's perspective. Students analyze buildings
through drawing, modeling, reading, and writing.
Provides a framework for understanding
contemporary architectural design and to building a
visual vocabulary to communicate effectively about
design.

ARC5203

Credits 4

Course Description The required studio is an investigation of a specifically

researched topic developed into an architectural
proposition. The degree project should represent a
synthesis of the student's understanding of
architecture, in addition to research in the potential
of architecture. Prior to undertaking the Degree
Project Studio, students must have satisfactorily
completed the Degree Project Research course.
