Happy New Year to All Our Cox Families!

Reminder: As posted in previous emails, the school newsletter will now be paperless! This is the FINAL paper copy coming
home. If you need a hard copy, please have your student stop by the front office. We keep extra copies of the newsletter at the
front counter. The newsletter is always posted on Class Dojo and on our school website.

Cub Cheers: Congratulations to the students in Mrs. Grenstiner’s Class they

did our Friday Announcements before break and were fabulous!
Congratulations to the following students for outstanding behavior and
earned the Cox Cub of the Week: Sophia Flood, Brenden Mott,
Kaijonn Shockency-King, Jacob Riggs, Gabriel Valderrama, Ryleigh Drews,
Jazmin Echazabal, , Erwin Peregrina, Alexa Garcia, Lalie Benjamin,
Makenzie Niewinski, Miguel Vallejo, Ryan Winfree, Lucrecia Zuniga,
Connor Biondi, Sofia LaRotta and Paula La Rotta.

DMC Garden News: We begin planting on Monday! Leafy vegetables will

be the first plant. Each Monday, Green Our Planet will send us “Farmer
Danielle” who will conduct 30 minute lessons with our classes out in the
garden through the rest of the school year.

CCSD Parent Survey: Thank you to the parents who took the time to complete the CCSD school survey for our school! We
had a 50% participation rate for parent responses.

PTA News: Our monthly PTA meeting is tonight, 1/8/19, at 6 pm in the Library. We always have our SOT (School
Organizational Team) mtg prior to PTA. The SOT mtg will begin at 5:30 pm this month. Parents, by you attending the PTA
meeting, you can help your child earn 5 extra credit points! This month the extra credit will go towards reading and language
arts. A great positive to start the year off!

School News: Report cards will be sent home along with honor roll certificates on Friday, 1/11/19. All grades are finalized for
first semester. Please remember that unlike middle and high school the elementary grades are continuing and constantly being
averaged in with first semester scores/percentages. This is a district practice, not just our school. We were informed by the
district that we will be adding an Intermediate Autism Program next year. Our school student enrollment projections have
come in and are close to our current enrollment (646 students K-5). We have new phones in our building with a new security
feature which allows a teacher to press a button and immediately call all lines at the front office to report an incident. In the
event that our class radios are not working or the intercom goes down, this feature will allow the person to get ahold of anyone
instead of trying multiple lines before getting through.

Did You Know? We had 304 students who have already turned in over 3 Applecore bookmarks! Our school is doing great
and we hope to win Applecore for a second year in a row! We also had 105 students with zero tardies and zero absences for
the entire first semester! Wow! We now have a Tesla Lego Team which will compete in tournaments around our district;
headed up by Mrs. Cole and Ms. Davis!
