FAMILY BREAKDOWN

Family, it is said makes up the society, but when family values

breakdown, who should be held responsible.
Well, hold the thought as Jenny Bassey shares that question with some
Uyo residents.

In today’s society, there are many different types of families.

Some include intact, non-intact, single families, stepfamilies and a

variety of others.

Along with these different varieties of families, there is one common

incident that can cause the family structure to collapse.

Breakdown in family value is an unplanned event in a family that affects

each member at different times and ways.

Research shows that about half of all marriages end in breaking up

thereby leaving millions of children each year to deal with the process
of family breakdown.

Since the family units makes up the society some residents of Uyo,
blamed the breakdown of family values on parents, noting that they are
the first teacher of a child.

The decried the erosion of the Nigerian culture especially as a result of

globalization, urging parents to revisit the others called on parents to
train their children to imbibe family values for the betterment of the
society.

The people advocated strict parental guidance in the growth and

development of the children.
