1 INTRODUCTION
This Documentation Instruction (DOS) applies for the Danish Business Unit (DBU).
The Documentation Instructions are a set of Mærsk Olie og Gas AS (Maersk Oil)
Instructions, comprising formal requirements and guidelines for the preparation of
documentation.

2 OBJECTIVE
The objective of DOS A-03 is to ensure consistent format and layout of the design
documentation, and to ensure that an Engineering Dossier is delivered to Maersk Oil.
DOS A-03 applies for both design of new installations and for design modifications to
existing platforms. It is emphasised that engineering design shall be controlled in a
proper way, especially with regards to safety critical documents, as described in section
7.1 – Engineering & Design.

3 SCOPE
DOS A-03 provides general and specific requirements to the design and engineering
documentation, and to the required Engineering Dossier.

4 REFERENCES
All regulations, codes and standards, etc. referred to in this part shall apply in latest
edition, unless otherwise stated.
Reference is made to DOS A-00, User Guideline where other instructions, relevant for
preparation of documentation, are summarised.
This Documentation Instruction does not relieve contractors or manufacturers of their
responsibility to retain documents as required by the governing code.

5 ORDER OF PRECEDENCE

Selection of the required documentation shall be made prior to commencement of the

The Maersk Oil procedure DK-EP-PRO-0008 - (PRO-0002), Management of change for
Design Modifications, describes how to control design modifications on all Maersk Oil
offshore installations in production in the Danish North Sea. It is very important that all
modifications are developed and executed correctly, with respect to engineering check
and verification, documentation update in general and special revision control for safety
critical documents.
DK-EP-PRO-0008 - (PRO-0002) ensures that revisions of critical documents are
accessible and status on AS-BUILT updates are transparent for all, and all changes to
critical documents are reviewed and authorised by responsible function before
implementation
DK-EP-GDE-0011 - (GDE-0010), Management of documentation for modification
projects, gives a description of how to manage the documentation; especially how to
check-out drawings to ensure that the right version is used and that information is
given to other projects.
If a deviation is discovered on an existing drawing (from line walks etc.), which is not
related to the ongoing project, this shall be clearly marked on the drawing. Reference is
made to guideline DK-EP-GDE-0004 – (GDE-0018), Clouds and revision triangles on
Maersk Oil drawings, section 7.5.
During the design phase the Engineering contractor must deliver design package(s) and
drawing(s) to Maersk Oil for 3rd part verification and for Maersk Oil approval. Especially
P&IDs and C&Es shall be subject for approval. When these approvals are obtained, a
copy is uploaded to the Maersk Oil database. Reference is made to section 8,
Deliverables.
To ensure the quality of the design packages and drawings in pdf version, the
documents shall be delivered according to the requirements in DOS A-25, Electronic
Documents. It must clearly emerge from the documents, who have prepared the
document, and who have performed the quality assurance (Check & Approval).
The Engineering Contractor shall prepare an Engineering Dossier. The Engineering
Dossier contains all the detail design documentation. The content of the Engineering
Dossier is shown in Appendix A: Topsides, Appendix B: Jackets or Appendix C: Pipelines
and Risers.

the left hand top of each appendix.

7.2 Fabrication
 Detailed Design, updated to AS-BUILT
The Fabrication Contractor shall update the Engineering Dossier to AS-BUILT. The
Fabrication Contractor is allowed to define the documentation as ONSHORE AS-BUILT,
especially if the documents are changed during offshore installation.

7.3 Installation
 Installation and HUC Design, updated to AS-BUILT
The Installation Contractor shall update the Installation Package to AS-BUILT. The
package shall contain all updates to the Engineering Dossier, if any.
All drawings, reference databases for 3D CAD models, computer-generated databases,
calculations, reports and engineering lists shall be updated to the agreed status as
computer activities.
Revision numbers for drawings, calculations, reports and lists etc. shall be raised one
higher, and stamped AS-BUILT prior to hand-over of the Engineering Dossier.
The drawing index shall be updated with details of AS-BUILT revision and added or
deleted drawings.
Reference is made to the appendixes detailing the contents of the above mentioned
documentation.

8 DELIVERABLES
The deliverables shall include all the listed documentation regardless if the
documentation during progress of work has been handed over for comments, approval
or information, even if otherwise agreed.
Electronic files shall be delivered to Maersk Oil in a suitable media. The media shall fit
to the amount of data, and shall be an international recognized type. If e-mail is used
the amount of data must not exceed 10 Mb. The chosen media must be approved by
Maersk Oil, Document Control, and upon request the media can be returned if wanted.
