Cutback Asphalt

Cutback Asphalt is manufactured by blending asphalt cement with a

petroleum solvent. There are three major types of Cutback Asphalt based on
the relative rate of evaporation of the solvent: Rapid-Curing (RC), Medium-
Curing (MC) and Slow-Curing (SC).

Rapid-Curing Cutback Asphalt is used primarily for surface treatments and

tack coat. Polymer Modified Rapid-Curing Cutback Asphalt is used only for
surface treatments. Common grades of Rapid-Curing and Polymer Modified
Rapid-Curing Cutbacks supplied by Jebro are listed below:
• RC 800
• RC 3000
• RC 800R
• RC 3000R

Medium-Curing Cutback Asphalt is typically used for prime coat, surface

treatments and stockpile patching mixes. Medium-Curing and Polymer
Modified Medium-Curing Cutbacks that we typically supply are listed below.
• MC 70
• MC 800
• MC 3000
• MC 800R
• MC 3000R

Emulsified Asphalt
Emulsified Asphalt (also simply called emulsion) is a mixture of asphalt
cement, water and an emulsifying agent. Emulsion is made by combining
these materials and passing them through a mill.

Emulsions are liquid at ambient temperatures. They can be applied at cooler

temperatures than asphalt cements and cutback asphalts.

There are two major categories of emulsion: Cationic and Anionic. Anionic
emulsions have negatively charged asphalt droplets and cationic emulsions
have positively charged asphalt droplets.
Anionic
• AE-150S
• AE-200S
• HFE-150
• HFE-300
• HFE-1000
• HFMS-2P
• HFMS-2

Cationic
• CRS-2
• CSS-1
• CSS-1H
• CRS-2P

Performance Graded Asphalt Binders

Performance Graded Asphalt Binders are specified by the Superpave
(Superior Performing Asphalt Pavements) System.

A unique feature of the Superpave System is that the specifications are

performance based. Performance Graded Asphalt Binders are selected to
meet expected high and low temperature extremes with a certain level of
reliability.

An example of a PG Asphalt Binder is PG 64-28. The first two numbers (64)

indicate that the binder meets high temperature physical properties up to 64
degrees Celsius. The last two numbers (-28) indicate the binder meets low
temperature physical properties down to -28 degrees Celsius.

Following are some of the PG Asphalt Binders Jebro has supplied, along with
grades which we expect to use in the Jebro marketing area.

• PG 58-28
• PG 58-34
• PG 64-22
• PG 64-28
• PG 64-34
• PG 70-28

Jebro has extensive experience with PG classified asphalt binders. If you
