The Native or Pateros duck, commonly

called itik, is the most popularly raised locally.


Although smaller than imported breeds, they are
good layers and non-sitters. Their eggs are
large. Its predominant colors are black and gray.
Some are barred (bulek), others are brown or
have white feathers mixed with black/green.
Males have coarer heads and heavier bodies than
females. Males emit shrill high-pitched sounds.
They have curly feathers on top of their
tails. Females emit low-pitched quaking sounds.
Their tail feathers lie flat or close to the bodies.
Origin: Pateros, Metro-Manila, Philippines.

The Khaki Campbell Ducks have a brown color


and are very active. They like swimming and
generally do very well in a range environment.
They are also excellent layers and lay a large
number of big thick-shelled eggs.

Origin: Uley, Gloucestershire, England.


Tsaiya Ducks are duck breed that is not native to the
Philippines having been developed in Taiwan. They
can be pure white in color or they may have a black
neck. However, the brown variety of the Tsaiya is
more popular as they are more preferred by farmers.
The Tsaiya ducks have a smaller body and are also
excellent layers. Adult males will weigh 1.4kg while
the adult females will weigh 1.3kg.

Origin: Taiwan.

American Pekin Ducks ,unlike the above ducks that are


egg-type ducks, the Pekin ducks are meat-type ducks.
The Pekin ducks are very docile ducks and are
particularly well adapted to the local Philippine climate.
In spite of being meat-type ducks, the Pekin ducks are
also excellent layers so you can keep them if you are
looking for a good all-purpose duck breed that you can
keep for both meats and eggs. If kept for meat, the pekin
ducks will be ready for the market within 2 to 2 months.

Muscovy Ducks are a heavy breed of meat-type ducks


that are also grown in the Philippines. They have yellow
skin and a plump body. You can choose from three
main varieties of the Muscovy ducks namely: white,
blue and coloured. It lays few eggs but it is quite self-
sustaining.

Origin: South America.


Philippine Duck, standing almost two feet high, is a
large dabbling or surface-feeding bird. Its food
consists mainly of shrimp, fish, insects and some
forms of vegetation in fresh- and saltwater habitats
such as mangroves, rice fields and the open sea. It
is typically a shy species that flies off quickly when
approached. Its crown, nape and eye stripe are
black or dark brown; its bill is blue-grey; its head
and neck are cinnamon in color; and its body and
legs are grayish-brown. Its spread wings show a
glossy-green patch bordered with black and white
on topside, and a white underside.
Origin: Philippines.
The Chinese Francolin (Francolinus pintadeanus)
is a species of bird in the Phasianidae family. It is
found in Cambodia, China, India, Laos, Myanmar,
Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. Its natural
habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests and
subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. he
females of the species seem to average slightly
smaller than the males. On an average, the length
of the bird is 12 - 13.4 cm and it weighs 10 - 14 g.

Daurian Partridge is a rotund bird, 28–30 cm (11–


12 in) long, brown-backed, with an orange face and
an orange bristly "beard" in the breeding season.
The rest of the head and the underparts are grey
with a buff central chest and a black belly patch.
The female has a smaller belly patch and is duller
than the male. Young Daurian partridges are
essentially grey-brown, and lack the distinctive face
and underpart markings.
Origin: Russia.
Japanese Quail are hardy birds that thrive in
small cages and are inexpensive to keep. The
females are characterised by light tan feathers
with black speckling on the throat and upper
breast. The males have rusty brown throat and
breast feathers. Males also have a cloacal gland,
a bulbous structure on the upper edge of the
vent that secretes a white, foamy material. This
unique gland can be used to assess the
reproductive fitness of the males.
Origin: East Asia.

King Quail (male) comes in many colors,


including blue, brown, silver, maroon, dark
brown & almost black. They have orange feet
which are hard and able to withstand a
continuous life on the ground like many
other game birds.The female is similar to the
male but cannot come in shades of blue. They
can live up to 13 years in captivity but only 3-6 on
average. In the wild they may live only 1.5 years.
The eggs of king quail are a light, creamy-brown
colour and slightly pointed at the 'top'; roughly
ovular in shape.
Origin: China and Philippines.
Philippine Cattle Breed are the indigenous cattle
breed found throughout the Philippines. It is a
small breed with mature bulls weighing about
400 kg and mature cows weighing about
300 kg. The color ranges from grey to brown to
fawn, with white spotting on some animals. The
females are humpless, while males have a low
hump.
Origin: Mexico and Spain.

Southern Yellow Cattle are smaller sized animals


with small body. Their body color vary from usual
yellow to white or to brownish orange. But most
of the animals are almost always all one color.
They are one of three breeds of Chinese Yellow
cattle. Other two Chinese Yellow cattle are
Central Plains Yellow cattle and the Northern
Yellow cattle breeds. The Northern Yellow breed
is clearly taurine (Bos taurus taurus), the
Southern Yellow breed is clearly Zebu (Bos taurus
indicus). But the Central Plains Yellow breed is
intermediate. Which means at a glance that the
Northern Yellow cattle have no humps, the
Central Plains Yellow cattle have small humps,
the Southern Yellow cattle have high, erect
humps. The Philippine Native cattle are usually
very similar and are mainly derived from the
Southern Yellow cattle brought from Fujian to the Philippines. As a smaller sized animal,
average body weight of the Southern Yellow cows vary from 280 to 300 kg, and the bulls
are heavier than the cows.
Origin: Southern China.
American Brahman is popular for its meat and its
hump on the shoulder. It is gray-ish white with loose
pendulous skin along the dew lap and under the
throat down to its forelegs, horn curve backwards
and upward. Third is one of the best imported
breeds for commercial purposes.
Origin: United States.

Red Sindi is a good source of meat and milk. It is also


a working animal. It has a humpand that is docile. It
is the most popular of all Zebu Dairy Breeds.
Origin: Sindh, Pakistan.

Santa Gertrudis is an imported breed that can


adapt to the hot climate of our country. They are
prolific like the native cattle. The breed has light
red or dark red color with deep, wide and thick
bodies and no obvious humps. It is good source of
meat.
Origin: Southern Texas (King Ranch).
Nellore is a breed of cattle that is good source of
meat. It can be trained as a working animal
because it is strong and active. The color ranges
from gray to white with black swath. Its body is
medium size and cylindrical. It has a hump but no
prominent as that of Brahman and it has
pendulous dewlap.
Origin: India.

Tharparker a breed of cattle that is raised for dairy


purposes and used as working animal. It has
grayish or white color and small horns.
Origin: Pakistan.
Dorper is a fast growing meat producing sheep. The
Dorper is an easy care animals that produces a fleece
of little wool that is shed late spring summer. It was
developed in South Africa and is now the second most
popular breed in that country. The Dorper Sheep
Breeders Society of SA was founded in 1950.This breed
was developed by the crossing of a Dorset Horn x
Blackhead Persian around the 1930s. Other breeds
such as the Van Rooy are also believed to have
contributed to the development of the breed. The
name 'Dorper' is a coupling of the first syllables of the
parent breeds Dorset and Persian.
Origin: South Africa.

Damara sheep are large animals with relatively long


appearance. It is relatively a large breed in terms of
shoulder height. They have long, oval and fairly deep
body. The top-line over the head is arched. It drops
down in the neck, rising to the withers from where it
declines slightly to rise again over well developed loins.
Origin: Egypt.
Gulf Coast Natives are small fine-boned sheep, with ewes
weighing no more than 180 pounds and rams 200. They
are often much smaller, especially on poor grazing land.
They may be polled or horned in both sexes. Though
primarily a meat breed, Gulf Coast Natives carry a light
wool that may have some hair in it, with a staple of 2.5-4
inches long. It is usually white, but may be brown, black,
or spotted occasionally. All Gulf Coast sheep do not have
wool on their faces, bellies or legs, which is an adaptation
to the heat of the South. The most notable characteristic
of Gulf Coast Native sheep is its resistance to parasites
and diseases that flourish among sheep in hot humid
climates. Compared to other breeds, they are especially
known for their ability to resist foot
rot and helminths such as Haemonchus contortuswhich
proliferate in the South.

Anglo-Nubian is a British breed of domestic goat. It


originated in nineteenth century from cross-
breeding between native British goats and a mixed
population of large lop-eared goats imported from India,
the Middle East and North Africa.[1]:356 Its distinguishing
characteristics include large, pendulous ears and a
"Roman" nose. Due to their Middle-Eastern heritage,
Anglo-Nubians can live in very hot climates and have a
longer breeding season than other dairy goats. It has been
exported to many parts of the world, and is found in more
than sixty countries. In many of them it is known simply as
the Nubian.
