SEAN QUINN - BIOGRAPHY

Sean Quinn is an emerging composer from Melbourne,

Australia. Beginning composition practice at the age of 15,
Sean’s work has developed from the simple stages of
notation to become fully fledged in the new music
practices of the modern age. With some of his more
traditional works being performed in the past 3 years –
these being his last three years of high-schooling at St
Kevin’s College in Toorak, Melbourne, Sean has written for
numerous combinations of instruments, ranging from solo
works right through to large orchestral pieces.

Further to compositional habits, Sean is an active musician; having studied Piano, Flute and
Clarinet intermittently during his school years. He is a passionate about education in music
and hopes to one day bring contemporary practice to the music classrooms of the world. Hope
is hopeful in studying Composition at Monash University during 2019 and into the future. He
is particularly influence by composers such as Ross Edwards, Mark Applebaum, György
Ligeti and Olivier Messiaen. However, amid his eclectic interests, he also has hobbies
surrounding Theatre, Literature and Film; all of which he takes into account when writing
music for a broader audience.

“I embrace my imperfections; I am a perfectionist for everyone else other than myself. Some
call me narcissistic, but I embrace that as well. I can’t be nice all the time, but I can be honest.”
