RESISTANT
TO SCRATCHING
As Silestone is made from quartz, it is
highly resistant to scratches and even to
some chemical substances. For further
chemical resistance details please refer
to our technical data information sheet.
RESISTANCE
TO STAINING
Silestone® is a non-porous surface that
is highly resistant to staining caused by
coffee, vinegar, makeup and any other
everyday products.
SHOCK
RESISTANCE
Silestone® has a great shock resistance,
considerably higher than that of other
products used for similar applications
(granite, solid surfaces, etc.) This
durability is achieveddue to its quartz
content (which gives it its hardness) a
polyester resin (elasticity) and the
vibro-compression system used during
its production process.

In order to make the most of

and the guidelines provided by the
manufacturer.

SILESTONE ARCHITECTURAL
PROPER USE
RECOMMENDATIONS ACCORDING
TO SPECIFIC APPLICATIONS
Surface preparation.
Please ensure that the surface is levelled, dry, properly fixed, solid and resistant to compression. YIt is important to check
it is free from grease, wax, varnish, dust or any other material which may affect adhesion.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Environmental conditions
Environmental and humidity conditions must be in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines. Working between temperatures
ranging from 10º to 30º is recommended.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Adhesive characteristics
Due to the high expansion coefficient of Silestone®, the use of expanding cement will be required. Because Silestone is non-porous,
normal cements which set through water evaporation (physical drying) should not be used. Therefore, only cements which dry
chemically must be used. The cement dries due to chemical reactions and is not affected by contact with air. We recommend
Pegoland Fast Fluido (Puma), Granirapid (Mapei) and Ardex X7 g PLUS (Ardex).
The suppliers will be able to suggest specific products which are suitable for a given application, taking into account the
characteristics of the CONTROL Forms.SpinButton.1 \s job and the type of fitting required. Always check with the supplier.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mixture
The cement should be mixed according to the amounts recommended by the manufacturer. It is important to work with the
manufacturers specific fixing instructions to ensure a perfect result. The temperature of the area must be taken into consideration
nominally between 10-30°C
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Adhesive application
Use double bonding (applying adhesive both in the support base and the underside of the slab). The adhesive must be applied over
the support base by the smooth edge of the trowel. A second coat should be applied with the toothed part to ensure the cement is
spread evenly over the surface. Do not exceed the thickness recommended by the manufacturer or spread more than 2 m at a time
2
Whilst the cement is setting, any source of heat should be avoided in order to not damage the slabs (air-conditioning, heated floors,
direct sun exposure, etc.)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Installation
The slabs must be clean and dry and that the cement has not set. Place the slab on the cement an lightly bedded in using a rubber
hammer. Use spacers to maintain the joints between the slabs. Silestone must never be laid without allowing for joints between the
pieces. Joints of 2mm are recommended for small sizes (30 x 30cm) The bigger the format of the slab, the bigger the separation joints
should be. For special projects and sizes larger than 60 x 60cm it is important to seek advice from the manufacturer.
Choosing the size of a joint does not only depend on the dimension but on the environmental conditions of the inner space and the
adhesive cement properties. Therefore, manufacturer instructions must be followed.
The structural and perimetral joints should always be respected, both in the support and in the covering. The sealing of these joints
should be carried out with elastic materials or those with suitable prefabricated structures. It is recommended to leave a perimetral
joint of 5 mm between the flooring and the vertical structures. Expansion joints in interior floors, every 30 m2
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Grouting
It is advisable to use cement or expoxy based materials. Cements match better with colours and are easier to apply and clean. Epoxy
based material are especially recommended for spaces for areas of low porosity and where joints need to be highly resistant to
chemical ingress
You should install the grouting 24 hours after placing the slabs. Grouting material should be applied with a flat rubber trowel, a
spatula or a special gun.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cleaning
Before the grouting has dried, it should be cleaned with a wet sponge, it is important to remove all surplus grouting material
immediately with a dry cloth or a rubber spatula.

DURABILITY
CLEANING RECOMMENDATIONS
Silestone® surfaces require basic maintenance. However, if we wish to keep them in their original condition, these simple recommenda-
tions should be followed:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Daily cleaning:
We recommend using Q-Action for the daily cleaning of Silestone® or water and neutral soap if not available.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Grease stains:
Apply a small amount of Q-FORCE or Q-Action on the stain and scrub with a non-metallic scourer until it disappears. (If these products
are not available then an all purpose household surface cleaner can be used.) Then rinse with water.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Water lime stains:
Apply limescale remover to the surface and leave for 1 minute. Rinse with water. Follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for
usage. Do not apply on other products (taps, sink, etc.) as it could affect their finish.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Silicone stains:
Use a blade and a little mild solvent (not dichloromethane and methane dichloride etc.). Rinse with water.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stubborn stains:
For difficult stains leave Q-force (or similar) on the area affected for 2 minutes and scrub well with a non-metallic scourer. (If you do not
have Q-Force, use Q-Action for 4 minutes.) Then rinse with plenty of water.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Shine loss:
The loss of gloss on the Silestone surface can be due to the application of waxes, sprays, and sealants, etc. in order to enhance a gloss:
With continued application the effect of these products is lost. The original “factory finish” can be restored by thoroughly cleaning the
surface following the processes listed in this document.
