Dear Colleagues,
APPEAL TO ALL OUR STAFF MEMBERS
As all of you are aware, the state of Kerala has been hit with incessant torrential rain
causing floods and landslides in many parts of the state since first week of August 2018 and
the severity of the calamity has not shown signs of receding so far, with death toll and loss
to properties increasing alarmingly day by day.
2. The flash floods and landslides have taken a heavy toll on lives and properties in the
state. So far, death toll has crossed 300 and thousands were rendered homeless. The entire
state of Kerela was put on high alert and many battalions of the National Disaster Response
Force are being put on the flood affected areas to tackle the crisis and lakhs of people have
been evacuated to various relief camps.
3. The transport in the state have also been badly hit with train services in many sectors
being discontinued indefinitely, one of the airports in the state, Cochin airport, being shut
down, many of the roadways including National Highways/State Highways being under
water, making many places of the state stranded. The state is facing a grave situation. Many
of our branches/ offices have also been severely affected.
4. While the entire state mourns over the monstrous disaster caused by the nature, it is our
duty to show humane gesture being the Bank in the state with maximum branches andcoverage. As a socially responsible organization, we feel that it is imperative for us to rise to
the situation and extend our assistance to the affected. In this connection, our Bank has
already donated Rs.2.00 crores to Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund and has also
announced various relief measures. Further, we have also opened a Current Account for
collecting the donation from our Staff. All our staff who wish to donate to the cause can
donate the amount in this account till 31.08.2018. Bank on its part will also contribute an
amount equivalent to the amount collected in the account and the amount such collected
will be donated to Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund. The contribution to the relief fund is
eligible for 100% tax exemption under section 80G (2) of Income Tax Act. The Bank will
arrange to provide certificate for contribution, to enable the employees to claim the tax
deduction,
5. In this situation, my sincere appeal to all my colleagues is to donate generously towards
the relief fund in the account mentioned below, by quoting your PF and PAN numbers, so
that we can contribute to the relief of people of Kerala for rebuilding their lives. Let us all
stand together and support the people of Kerala in their hour of crisis, *
