DHIS 2 Deployment Checklist

15 March 2016

1. Before you leave for the deployment and training of the DHIS 2, make sure that you have got the
following required tools
 Windows 7 (64 bit) Professional Operating system
 DHIS 2 offline installer
 Microsoft Office 2013, PDF Reader, WinZip/WinRAR, Anti-virus software, utility software such as
drivers, EaseUs cloning software etc.
 A screwdriver – ask the regional health bureau team to facilitate this
2. Establish communication with the regional health bureau representative and ensure that the
training/deployment venue has a reliable electric power (and generator for backup), and also bring 5
computers from the nearby woredas or zones for cloning purposes. Also, make sure that the health
facilities, woredas and zones are informed:
 about the training/deployment venue
 to send the right person with their hard disks (labelled with the name of the health
facility/admin unit) and computer models
 To bring their Organization Units’ (MFR) data using the data collection template provided, and
 To backup their personal and organizational data before they come to the training/deployment
3. Cloning the hard disks
 Create a master hard disk to clone (on the 5 computers)
i. Format the computers and clean install Windows 7 Professional (64 bit) operating
system
ii. Install the DHIS 2 using the offline installer
iii. Install Microsoft Office 2013, WinZip/WinRAR, PDF Reader, etc.
iv. Install EaseUs cloning software (follow the on-screen installation instructions accepting
the default options)
 Connect the hard disk (from health facility/woreda, or zone) as a slave on the computer you
prepared to clone (use the data and power cables of the CD-ROM to connect the hard disk)
 Go to Manage (right-click on Computer, and select Manage) and Disk Management to ensure
that the second hard disk is properly connected and recognized by the computer
 Start the EaseUs application, select the Clone option, specify the source disk (usually labelled as
Disk 1) and the destination disk (usually labelled as Disk 2). You can refer to the Disk
Management option to check their sizes in case the labels are confusing.
 Connect the cloned hard disk on another computer to test it
4. Collect health facility list data
 Make sure that the Organization Units’ (MFR) data is collected using the template provided, and
send the list to the Core Customization Team (CCT) for verification
